Google Celebrates 25th Anniversary for Tetris with Logo Design

Who says Google employees are not videogame fans? When Google-Street view was released awhile back, employees of the company decided to cosplay and a few were even spotted dressing up as Zelda characters, which can been seen in the street view feature. This past Earth Day, Google redesigned their logo on the search page which commemorated the appreciation for the planet. In that same design, we discovered the TriForce hidden in the image.

Today happens to be the 25th anniversary when Tetris was created by Alexey Pajitnov, in the USSR at the Academy of Science in Moscow. Thanking his achievement, Google has redone their logo for the day, celebrating the ‘birthday’ of the famous videogame.

Check it out up top.

Tetris Soap That Makes Me Feel Uneasy

Lately, I have been noticing a new video game trend. Apparently there are a lot of people out there who are into making soap designs. Recently, these ’soap makers’ have been creating scrub cleaners that resemble video game accessories/titles. And now we have another one.

The guys over at Geeky-Gadgets spotted Tetris soap, which is obviously inspired by the classic puzzle game. While I think it would be cool to have a bunch of these soaps in a bucket inside my shower, they look really uncomfortable to was wash with. Some of those edges look like they would be going up an area where you don’t them too, by mistake of course.

If you want some, Digital Soaps are selling sets of them for only $10.

Play a Tiny Tetris Game

Tetris is consider by many; the greatest puzzle game of all time. Some might even argue it IS the greatest video game. Since the was introduced in the mid-80s, countless versions have been made for the PC to mobile phones and millions of copies have been sold. The game is easily one of the most successful franchises out there today.

Now, if you click here, you can play the world’s tiniest version yet. Not only that, it should take you hours to actually loose. Because the blocks are not only small, but you can use the whole web browser as space for the game.

Hardcore Tetris fans should love it, I for one couldn’t last more than a few minutes. I realized this would take WAY to long!

To play: Use the arrow keys to move left to right. The up and down keys move the angles of the blocks. The spacebar speeds up the blocks.

Cosplay GameBoy that Works

Some cosplay people look horrible, some amazing, while others are just original. Some guy was walking around the Ohaycon Convention in Columbus, OH and he would fall under the original category. The video up top shows why.

Not only did he dress up as the first generation Gameboy, but his costume actually played Tetris by pressing the D-pad and the buttons on the front of the box. How did he do it? Obviously the screen is probably an LCD screen, but he has a laptop attached to the inside of the box, using double sided-tape and a laptop running a Gameboy emulator.

We’re told thousands were jealous in the building…

Cool Stuff: Piggy Bank Acrade That Plays Games

Strapya World has created a cool piggy bank concept. Instead of having the generic pig with a coin size hole in it, they modeled it after a mini-arcade unit. But get this, if you drop any coin into the bank, you can actually play a game.

The two games that can be purchased are ‘Breakout‘ or ‘Tetris‘ and the unit will set you back $39.99. Even though it’s a bit pricey and I’m pretty sure it’ll never pay off itself — I like the idea as a collectable.

The graphics on the unit is pretty basic, but I still find the idea cool and might have it pick this up and put it on my desk.

After the jump, watch a video of it in action.
