Yesterday, we reported that Nintendo’s sales were down about 40 percent. In hard economic times, this wasn’t exactly breaking news and if anything, proved the videogame industry isn’t recession proof. Thankfully Capcom is proving that not every company in the business is hurting, when compared to last year.
According to the Osaka-based videogame publisher, the company’s net sales are up 36 percent and their operating income is up 32.5 percent, when compared to last year’s first quarter. One of the biggest reasons for the noticeable increase was the release of their highly popular Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV games, which are both established franchises.
Things don’t look like their going to slow down either for the company. In the upcoming year, Capcom expects to release Dark Void, Lost Planet 2 Dead Rising 2 and possibly a new Onimusha title.

Street Fighter IV has been in the arcades for sometime now and just recently came out for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, last fall Capcom promised PC owners a version of their own, but since that time, nothing else has said. Although, the publisher did speak of a spring/summer launch.
According to the official Japanese Street Fighter Blog, Street Fighter IV will be smacking its way for the PC on May 1, 2009. As of now, we’re not sure if that is just a Japan release date or a worldwide date. It should be also noted that their has been rumors of the PC version is coming with arcade joysticks — nothing has been confirmed thus far.

No question, almost after a full decade of not seeing a Street Fighter sequel released, Capcom nailed Street Fighter. It only took a decided to come out with the forth installment of the legendary fighting series, but it was well worth the wait. Of course, like most video games that are sold today, there are a few issues and bugs included with the game.
The video up top shows off one of the major bugs and we hope Capcom addresses it with a patch in the near future. Bruce Lee/Marshall Law Fei Long apparently has a infinite combo. This means, if the player does a series of button combinations right, he/she could win a round without his or her opponent being able to counter the attacks.
The only positive to come out from this glaring problem is, Fei Long can only use the infinite combo against two characters; Seth and Abel.
In order to do the ‘cheating combo,’ EvenHubs says all you have to do is a “Standing Hard Punch up close, Cancel into a Flying Kick and repeat.”

If anyone ever thought that Street Fighter was dead or the forth installment would not sell well in Japan they were, errr well… – dead wrong. According to some of the first day sales numbers, 86,000 copies of Street Fighter IV were sold for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the ‘Land of the Rising Sun.’
Apparently Capcom didn’t expect to see these numbers, especially since everyone has been affected by these economic times. A community manager for the publisher said the company was “overwhelmed by demand”, and that the entire county of japan is completely sold out of the fighter.
Could this be a sure sign that the new Street Fighter movie will become the largest grossing film in Japan? No, we didn’t think so either. But it is definitely good to know that the Street Fighter series is on pace to be around for a lot longer than some people originally thought.
Long live 2-D fighting!

Grand Theft Auto came out back in April, gamers who found leak versions of the game week sin advance started to broadcast it on Justin.tv and other various websites. Since then, gamers who have somehow received an early copy of the game, broadcast it on these websites.
That is exactly what Rabbit057 did on JTV. As I write this, he is playing Street Fighter IV for the Xbox 360. After the jump, you can watch him live if he’s broadcasting or click here to chat with him and other gamers from Justin.tv.
Also, because he’s not affiliated with /gamer whatsoever, we can’t promise what he says is necessarily safe for work…so, NSFW! (more…)

Capcom looks like they are a supporter of PlayStation’s Home and in a big way. Famitsu has broke the news that the Japanese company plans on adding two of their biggest franchises to the virtual world.
First up is Street Fighter IV and when the game is officially released, a patch will be available for download. The update will allow players to meet up in their living space in Home and meet the players before they begin an online match. On top of that, you can dress your Avatar as one of the fighters; for a fee of course — joy!!

Capcom is also developing game space that looks very much like the first level of Resident Evil 5. Not much is known what players will do in the space — but we are pretty sure every guy will hit on the one girl in the room (she’s probably a dude). Judging by the pictures, it looks like you will also be able to dress your Avatar as Chris Redfield.

A few posts down, we have some screenshots showing off the console version of Street Fighter IV. Don’t get me wrong, I’m still really excited about the forth installment of the series playing on my TV set.
Although, I could be even more thrilled to play King of Fighters XII. If you haven’t seen any gameplay for the next KoF, I recommend checking out the trailer above. In many ways, I think this game looks graphically more appealing than Street Fighter IV.

Who can’t wait to get their hands on Street Fighter IV for the Xbox 360 and/or PlayStation 3? Sure we played and loved the arcade version, but there is something about playing the fighter in the comfort of our own home. I guess it just reminds us of the glory days and playing it on the SNES. Oh, and we also can’t wait to play as Cammy who is not included in the arcade version — and it’s not because she’s some great fighter.
Other than that, there isn’t much to report with the pictures besides some do feature Ms. Cammy…and her ass.
After the jump, check out the screens. (more…)

In a press release issued today, Capcom announced their first quarter 2009 plans for North America and Europe and it’s going to be a big year for the Japanese publisher. The document confirmed that Resident Evil, Bionic Commando, Street Fighter IV and Dead Rising for the Wii will be made available in stores by the first half of this year…in fact most will be on sale by March.
Not a bad lineup, but what does Capcom have in store for the Holidays? It seems they are trying to release their big gun before everyone else. Unless they have some huge plans at E3, their Christmas lineup could be stale. We think it probably would have been a better idea to span out the games over the course of the year.
North American dates:
Early 2009 – Flock (XBLA/PSN)
February 17 – Street Fighter IV (X360/PS3)
February 27 – Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop (Wii)
March 13 – Resident Evil 5 (X360/PS3)
Mid-March – MotoGP (Wii)
Mid-2009 – Bionic Commando (X360/PS3)
European Dates:
February TBA – Flock (XBLA/PSN)
February 20 – Street Fighter IV (X360/PS3)
February 27- Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop (Wii)
February 27- Neopets Puzzle Adventure (Wii/DS/PC)
March 13 – Resident Evil 5 (X360/PS3)
March TBA – MotoGP (Wii)
March TBA – Bionic Commando (X360/PS3)

/film received the movie poster for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. As /film mentions, the poster looks like complete ass. When Peter Sciretta first received the image yesterday, he was not even sure if the poster was fan made or the actual design for the movie. After doing a little research, he believes it’s legit. Anytime a site receives info about marketing plans and they are not sure if it’s real or not — that is generally NOT a good thing.
Oddly enough, a few days ago we got word that Capcom about the box art to Street Fighter IV changing. Although it’s not exactly like the movie poster; Ken and Ryu are in a pose similar to the movie poster. Was that on purpose!?

Back to the poster — it’s so pathetic looking, Peter actually went lengths to try to improve it — did he succeed? Sadly, we think so! Head over there now to check it out.

While speaking with G4, Capcom producer Yoshi Ono confirmed his upcoming fighter, Street Fighter IV is headed to the consoles “this winter.”
“We don’t want to start rumors that it’s this year, but definitely this winter…
At some point you’ll be sitting in you winter coat looking at snow out the window and right then we’ll kind of heat you up a little with some hot street fighter action.”
Just remember, when he says winter — it doesn’t necessarily mean before 2009. In fact winter doesn’t officially start until December 21, 2008 and ends on March 20, 2009.
Considering I’m in California and when I look out the window It’ll be sunny out. Street Fighter won’t really warm me up. However, what it will do to me, is make me forget how beautiful it is outside because I’ll be kicking Chun-Li’s ass!

Capcom has released the box art for the upcoming fighter Street Fighter IV for the Xbox 360 and PS3. While the cases above are for the Xbox 360 version, we’re pretty sure the PS3 art will look identical.
The separate boxes feature two famed Street Fighter’s Chun-Li (American Box) and Ryu (European Box) and both have the other fighters in the game transparent around them.
Although, I do think the Ryu posing to his well-known ‘Hadouken‘ power, I find his face looks like he’s taken a number-two and simultaneously his hemorrhoid popped. I also find Chun-Li’s two LARGE boo…errr, hairpieces attractive.

In an interview with Videogamer.com, Street Fighter IV Producer Yoshinori Ono confirmed that their would be no exclusive characters for the PS3 or Xbox 360.
Well this is just my policy, but I don’t want to give an exclusive character for any particular console. And that applies to downloadable characters as well. Because it’s not very fair, when you think about this as a board game or a tool. Hidden characters? If we’re going to talk about hidden characters they won’t be hidden any more!
That should lay to rest about the rumors that we’d have our very own different characters on the home versions. Honesty, we really didn’t expect that we would have exclusive selectable stars of the game, but it’s also disappointing not to have any either.

UPDATE: We just got word that this will not be releasing in the United States.
IGN has spotted a redesigned controller for the Xbox 360. The controller will feature a firmer d-pad that will be effective when you actually use it. Unlike the old d-pad where we would press up, and the movement went right. Other than that, the controller hasn’t changed. Maybe we’ll finally use the pad after years of neglect.
Here is what IGN wrote about the new model:
“While aesthetically identical to the previous controller, the d-pad has been re-engineered to offer more instant control, with an eight way input taking place of the previous four. A brief hands-on with the controller playing Pro Evolution 2009 proved that the redesign has been effective, with the d-pad sitting in a larger rocker and proving more tactile.”
The Controller is thought to be inspired by the release of Street FIghter IV. It seems Microsoft knows the PS3 design is considerably better than their own for a fighter.
