To say the Star Wars franchise is a money maker would be an understatement. Pretty much any product that has those two words one it, is for the most part, guaranteed to sell well. So, for a Star Wars game to be the fastest selling game in the franchise — would be an accomplishment. And that is exactly what Star Wars: The Force Unleashed did.
According to Gamasutra, The Force Unleashed has sold 5.7 million copies since it debuted back in September. Of course, we already expected that happened when the game sold about 1.7 million units in just the first five days of its release.
One of the major reasons why we think it sold so fast, wasn’t just because of the premises of the game, but because of how many systems it was released on. Star Wars: The Force would be the definition of a multiplatform game; it was available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, iPod/iPhone, mobile phones, and the N-Gage — however, it was not on the PC.

For the second time ever; the Writers Guild of America is recognizing video games for their annual award ceremony for best writing. This year’s winner is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, beating out; Fallout 3, Tomb Raider: Underworld, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 and Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble!
While Star Wars didn’t receive the high review scores that some were expecting, the story was unquestionably great. So great, that many people, including us, thought the game’s story-line could have been better than the last three films released.
We would like to personally congratulate LucasArts and the team behind Star Wars and hope even more developers take notice and focus more on creating a wonderful story.

One of my favorite features to come out this generation is the ability to download a demo. No longer do we have to wait for the latest issue of an official magazine and hope that month comes packed with a fun demo. Today, it seems like every week we have the opportunity to download a demo. On top of this, it is a great way for a publisher to give us gamers a tease to what the actual game will play like.
When Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo arrived on Xbox Live, 1.3 million people downloaded the demo in the first three days. Until now, that was the the most downloaded demo in that amount of time. But that record has now been officially been beaten by Capcom’s Zombie shooter.
The highly anticipated title Resident Evil 5 is coming out later this year. Because of the popularity of the series, Capcom decided to release a demo to the American audience and to say some people downloaded it would be an understatement. In three days, 1.8 million Xbox Live subscribers went on the Marketplace and selected the demo to play — beating out Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. These numbers are a sure sign for good things to come for Capcom and their Resident Evil franchise.

This could be the best review in the history of video games. Okay, I’m not serious at all, but for some reason I couldn’t stop watching. Gettinggoodatthis on youtube decided to review Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Although, I didn’t like it because of its in depth review — in fact it’s the complete opposite.
I just wonder if this was supposed to be a real review or a fake…

Even though critics didn’t praised Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, that didn’t stop a million people from buying LucasArt’s game. According to vgcharts, Star Wars sold over one million copies in just five days worldwide. The best sold console version was the Xbox 360.
Although the game didn’t get awful reviews (we liked it), the scores it received usually does not translate well into sales. Hand it to LucasArt’s marketing, because that sure didn’t stop consumers eating up the game.
I guess the name ‘Star Wars‘ might have helped push a few games out of stores.

All right, I can’t wait for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the Xbox 360 and PS3. But I was pretty sure the mobile phone version wasn’t going to live up to it’s big brother. Pocketgamer has the actual game mobile game and you can play it online for free. Even though I didn’t have high hopes for it, it’s still a game that I haven’t tried, so I was up to the task.
If you want to give it a try, be forewarned, the demo is kinda boring. I spent only a few minutes with it and had to stop. You can’t control the apprentice, but instead you press a series of numbers and that somehow activates the force.
/gamer’s official score for the demo: ‘ugh/10‘
[Thanks Harold]

It seems like more people than just me wanted to play Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. According to LucasArts, Star Wars was downloaded over 1 Million times in just 8 days on Xbox Live and that was just here in the US. LucasArts states worldwide downloads exceeded 2.3 million times. Again keep in mind, these numbers were only the first 8 days of it’s release.
Having the ability to download a demo these days is such a great way of letting the consumer play something before they buy it. With the endless amount of information we have online to see if a game is worth purchasing and the option to download a demo, forces gaming companies to make better products. No longer are the days where the gamer buys a crapy game. I this point if we do buy something that ends up sucking, we really should only blame ourselves for not being informed.

Even though the reviews are average for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, I’m still really excited for it. After playing it at this year’s E3, we were sold on the story alone. After seeing the commercial that we feature above, we’re still sold on it. The level they’re using in the ad is the Wookies home planet, Kashyyyk. The same level where you play as Darth Vader. Check it out.

The first couple of review scores for Star Wars: the Force Unleashed have made it’s way onto the interwebs thanks to gamerankings.com and forums. Official Xbox Magazine gave a score of a 7.5/10, calling it an “Entertaining story,” but “Is less polished than the Jedia Knight game.” The US version of the Official PlayStation Magazine gave a little lower score at 3.5/5. At this time, we couldn’t find an article for OPM.
The Nintendo Power review also gave it a 7.5/10 saying, “You can hack and slash with your lightsaber, which isn’t as satisfying as I’d hoped.” Isn’t that the only reason why we would buy that version?
Although the scores are more positive than negative, it is disappointing to see such an average score from a game we are excited to play. We still feel the game will have an unbelievable story-line and it could be worth purchasing just for that, even if the gameplay is not up to par as some others.

Alright, the 21st can’t come soon enough. For the people who don’t know, August 21 is the day when Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo will be released for both PSN and Xbox Live. To give us a taste of what you’ll be playing, LucasArts has created a minute long trailer for the Force Unleashed. If you watch closely after the 30 sec mark you’ll see the famous Princess Leia walking down some stairs with R2D2 and two red guards behind her.
At the end of the trailer it said, “May the Force blow your mind,” It’s also going to make your pants wet with excitement.
We’re so ecstatic for the Force Unleashed, we think it’s going to be one of the few games to be nominated for Game of the Year.

Get ready Jedi’s wannabe’s, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will have a Demo up on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network starting on August 21. We knew LucasArts was planning one this month, and now we’ll be playing it in just 5 freaking days. The level confirmed for the demo will be an early stage of the game: “the TIE Fighter Construction Facility,” where a Jedi General named Rahm Kota is trying to harm the facility.
LucasArts told Computerandcideogames.com about the level we’ll be playing shortly:
“The Secret Apprentice has been sent by Darth Vader to hunt down and destroy the General, but is also told that, in order to remain a secret, he is to leave no witnesses.”
Included in the demo will be a tutorial, where the player will learn how to use the Force with a controller.

One of my favorite games at this E3 – Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, will have a demo available for Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network later this month. As of now, we have no indication which level we’ll be able to play, but I’m hoping for first level where you play as Darth Vader on the planet Kashyyyk. Out of everything we played, that level makes the most sense for a couple of reasons. Number one, it has a recognizable character in Darth Vader. Number two, LucasArts was very adamant about how the first level was important to them, because it was more of a tutorial for the player. And Damn it, Darth Vader kicks ass!
Either-way, we’ll be playing the greatest Star Wars game of all time in at least 16 days.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will be sold in stores on September 16, 2008 for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PS2, PSP, DS, iPhone, and the N-Gage.

The iPhone certainly has the power to reproduce great looking games visually. And with the seemingly unlimited control with the touch screen and accelerometer, it’s only a matter of time when we start to see great games. LucasArt’s first game for the iPhone looks to have the potential to-be just that.
They’ve taken Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and made what looks to be, one of the better games to be available for the phone sometime in the future. Instead of having a generic 3D action game, where the controls could feel awkward. They took a different approach, they use a control system similar to “quick-time” events. An example of this would be Dragon’s Lair or God of War. Where the player pushes a button corresponding to what’s on the screen. But Star Wars goes a little deeper, you don’t just push a button, you draw lines by using the touchscreen. And instead of being forced to draw one line like most other “quick-time” event games, you have the option of which line you want to draw. Maybe you want to deflect a laser with a Lightsaber draw a straight line. Or maybe you just want to use the Force, then draw a different looking line. The choice is up to you.
The Force Unleashed is really living up to the hype, but not just for the consoles-but all the way down to the mobile phones. Check out the Video

We’ve just got word from a source that was at LucasArt’s game division today and had some interesting information concerning Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. As our source was walking through the halls he was invited into their Foley room. If some of you are wondering what the Foley room is; it’s where sound is reordered live for movies and games.
As he watched two Foley sound technicians finishing up some work, he asked them, “what game are you recording for“. The two men responded and said it was for the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed game, and they’re working on “new content” but weren’t allowed to go into detail. What exactly do they mean “new content”. Generally speaking, the Foley room recordings are done well in advance and Star Wars is scheduled to be released September 16th. So why would they still need to record sound for the game? From what it seemed like and how it was worded, LucasArts is already well underway and creating downloadable content for the Force Unleashed. Which makes sense, this Star Wars game could be the biggest game for the franchise up to this point.
On a side note, the same game had 40 members of the San Francisco orchestra and recorded two hours of original music at Skywalker Sound. As well as the producers recording the Blue Angels flying overhead and using the sound for some of the Force effects.
The game will be released on September 16th for all platforms.
