The highly anticipated update for the Xbox 360’s dashboard is about to finally launch globally on November 19 — Microsoft announced at their Tokyo Game Show press briefing. The update will include the Avatars that seem oddly similar to the Mii’s offered on the Wii System. The concept is the same as the Nintendo’s idea when it debuted back in 2006 — create a virtual person in the Xbox menu, than at one point you’ll be able to transport them into certain games that take advantage of the new Avatars. The first game to adapt to the new update will be the movie trivia game, ‘Scene it?: Box Office Smash.‘
The biggest feature included in the update has to be the ability to watch Netflix movies through Xbox Live. Not only can you just watch a movie in your queue, but you can view the movie with a friend on another Xbox using their online service. You can even put on the headset and talk to him/her while the movie is playing. And the best part of the Netflix support, it’s free! All you need is a Xbox Live subscription and a Netflix account and you can watch what ever movies are available through Netflix’s streaming service, which is about 12,000 right now. But it could grow by November 19.

In a recent post on GamerScoreBlog.com we learned that Scene It? Box Office Smash was given a release date of Oct. 28th. For $59.99 you’ll receive the game and four buzzers. But no worries! For those suckers who already purchases Scene It? Lights Camera Action (myself included), you can purchase the disc only version for only $49.99!
As mentioned in a past aticle, Scene It? Box Office Smash is slated to be the first of many Xbox LIVE avatars.
Scene It? Box Office Smash also is Xbox 360’s first game to debut with the New Xbox Experience’s player Avatars. Players can literally put themselves into the game through personalized characters that respond to your play and interact with each other throughout the course of the game!
Seeing as this new version of Scene It? is playable on Xbox LIVE, we can only hope for future question packs for purchase on the marketplace.
Either way, I’ll see all you gamer / movie nuts online on the 28th!

Seattlepi had a interesting theory regarding the new Dashboard update for the Xbox 360 and when it could be available. For those who don’t know, the first game to introduce Microsoft’s Avatars is the movie quiz game ‘Scene It? Box Office Smash.’ Considering the game comes out on October 28, 2008 [According to IGN], there is a chance we could have an update around the same time. Also for people who don’t have access to Xbox Live, the game could be a way to load the Dashboard without the internet.
You would figure whenever ‘Scene It?‘ is released, that’s when the update will happen. The question is, could the game be ‘delayed?‘ It very well could be, but as of now, October 28 looks to be a reasonable time for the update to be available to the public.
