Yesterday, we reported that Nintendo’s sales were down about 40 percent. In hard economic times, this wasn’t exactly breaking news and if anything, proved the videogame industry isn’t recession proof. Thankfully Capcom is proving that not every company in the business is hurting, when compared to last year.
According to the Osaka-based videogame publisher, the company’s net sales are up 36 percent and their operating income is up 32.5 percent, when compared to last year’s first quarter. One of the biggest reasons for the noticeable increase was the release of their highly popular Resident Evil 5 and Street Fighter IV games, which are both established franchises.
Things don’t look like their going to slow down either for the company. In the upcoming year, Capcom expects to release Dark Void, Lost Planet 2 Dead Rising 2 and possibly a new Onimusha title.

Chittagong on flickr remade box art of today’s hit games, and dreamt how they would look if they were originally released on the NES. When other people do this, they like to completely redo everything, from the graphics to actual art. However, Chittagong decided to use todays graphics, but put them into the retro degraded boxes. Even if some of you think it could be lazy, I find them to be pretty cool.

When I heard the Muppets were possibly going to be geared more for adults, I didn’t think this would happen. IGN and Black20 thought about what it would be like if the Muppets were the stars of Resident Evil 5, as they should have been. And if were turned into a movie, this would be the trailer.
After viewing the fake trailer, I realized that this movie would be 100 times better than all three of Paul W.S. Anderson’s film adaptions of Resident Evil.

During a Q&A segment at the Resident Evil 5 Wondercon panel, Capcom was asked by an enthusiastic fan about a possible Resident Evil 2 remake. Mike Webster of Capcom decided to responded to the answer. He said, “Stay tuned, we absolutely understands that these are classic games,” and added, “Some announcements, that you will be very interested in [are on the way].”
Of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean we are seeing Resident Evil 2 coming to a next-gen console near you — but he is definitely implying that some of their classic games are on the way. Which one? Who knows. But, to us, we might be seeing the publisher unveil an unannounced Resident Evil remake and soon! We also wonder which system Capcom chooses!

Major Nelson decided to show off some of the goods from the Resident Evil 5 Xbox 360 bundle. Instead of watching the man open up the box and opening up every little thing from the package, he neatly displayed everything on a table and turned on the camera. Although it’s not very exciting, you get an idea what to expect if you open one up.
The bundle includes:
*(ugly)Red Xbox 360
*(ugly)Red Controller
*Street Fighter HD Remix Download Code
*120 GB hard drive
*Resident Evil 5
*Headset

A few days ago we reported about an employee who works for Toys “R” Us took a picture of his manifest. The document contained a new color for an Xbox 360 Elite, red. While some speculated that it was nothing more than a fake, others including us thought it could be indeed real.
If you sign on Xbox Live right now, you will see an advertisement showing off a brand new Xbox 360 bundled with Resident Evil 5, but with a different color. Yup, you guessed it, red — yay?

The bundle will not only feature an ugly red color for the console, which will not match any of your other entertainment gadgets, but will also include; Resident Evil 5 game, 120GB hard drive, headset, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix and an ugly ass red wireless controller.
While no price was revealed in the ad, we assume it will be around the $399 mark.

The Wii is the world’s most popular next-generation system. However, there isn’t a true original sequel to Resident Evil. Sure, you could pick up Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, but honestly that being a ‘light gun’ game in all, do you really count that? Of course, Resident Evil 0 is coming and Resident Evil 4 has already been released, but those are remakes. You can’t really count that either…can you?
However, while speaking with Eurogamer, the producer of Resident Evil 5 Masachika Kawata spoke about the possibility of creating some kind of Resident Evil game on Nintendo’s console.
“Personally I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family. At the moment we don’t know and have just been working on RE5, so watch this space.”
We’re all for Capcom creating a Resident Evil game on the Wii. As long as it is built from the ground up for the system and not only takes advantage of the hardware, but the Wiimote as well. Meaning, we don’t want to see a downgraded version of Resident Evil 5.
Please Capcom, if you were to do this; please no remakes or spinoffs — just create a completely original game that follows the RE universe.

Okay, we’ve all played the demo to Resident Evil 5…and if you haven’t yet; we’re truly sorry. Yes, it is great and yes we’re going to pick it up. But seriously, what the hell happened to the series. When the original Resident Evil came out over 10 year’s ago, the undead was slow and easy to run away from. Now, they are fast, big can ride motorcycles and apparently can drive boats…according to the newest screens.
Not that we have any doubt in the greatness of this horror game, but how did these zombies get so damn smart and athletic? And is that a zombie alligator in the last picture? God I hope so! There is nothing more terrifying than alligators that are already dead, but still try to eat you…

After the jump, check out the rest of the screens! (more…)

It appears the EB Games and Gamestop up in Canada feel that Resident Evil 5 is going to live up to the hype. They believe this so much that they’re offering up full retail, in-store credit within one week of the purchase if the game does not meet your expectations… that is, if you pre-order the game.
Head on over to GamesOnSmash.com for the details.

I normally don’t like to post original content from other websites, just because if they work for something — they deserve all the credit. But I couldn’t contain myself this time around. The guys over a Destructoid put together a video that compares the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the Resident Evil 5 demo.
Who ever put together this video is insane. The amount of time he had to nitpick every little detail is astonishing and because of his work, the internet should watch with amazement.
So which version is better!? He picked the PS3 as the overall winner and I must say; it’s hard to disagree. Sorry Xbox 360 fanboys, the PS3 version is just better, deal with it! :-p

Capcom looks like they are a supporter of PlayStation’s Home and in a big way. Famitsu has broke the news that the Japanese company plans on adding two of their biggest franchises to the virtual world.
First up is Street Fighter IV and when the game is officially released, a patch will be available for download. The update will allow players to meet up in their living space in Home and meet the players before they begin an online match. On top of that, you can dress your Avatar as one of the fighters; for a fee of course — joy!!

Capcom is also developing game space that looks very much like the first level of Resident Evil 5. Not much is known what players will do in the space — but we are pretty sure every guy will hit on the one girl in the room (she’s probably a dude). Judging by the pictures, it looks like you will also be able to dress your Avatar as Chris Redfield.

One of my favorite features to come out this generation is the ability to download a demo. No longer do we have to wait for the latest issue of an official magazine and hope that month comes packed with a fun demo. Today, it seems like every week we have the opportunity to download a demo. On top of this, it is a great way for a publisher to give us gamers a tease to what the actual game will play like.
When Star Wars: The Force Unleashed demo arrived on Xbox Live, 1.3 million people downloaded the demo in the first three days. Until now, that was the the most downloaded demo in that amount of time. But that record has now been officially been beaten by Capcom’s Zombie shooter.
The highly anticipated title Resident Evil 5 is coming out later this year. Because of the popularity of the series, Capcom decided to release a demo to the American audience and to say some people downloaded it would be an understatement. In three days, 1.8 million Xbox Live subscribers went on the Marketplace and selected the demo to play — beating out Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. These numbers are a sure sign for good things to come for Capcom and their Resident Evil franchise.

This also means the demo my be playable off of a 512MB Memory Unit as well.
The demo can be played in single player and multiplayer modes both online and offline. (offline multiplayer with give you a split screen)
Please let us know your thoughts on the Demo.

Capcom has just released a trailer for Resident Evil 5 that will be included in before movie in theaters. The biggest surprise to come from the clip are zombies riding motorcycles and we’re giving it a big “WTF?” Like seriously, how did they learn to balance like that or even how to operate them. And the acting is again god awful, why can’t Capcom figure out how to solve this problem?
Other than that, the game is looking better and better every time we see more clips from the game. But again, why the hell are zombies riding bikes!?
