The new PSP Go isn’t just a smaller, UMDless version with a new design; it actually has a faster processor. According to some FCC documents, which were filed by Sony and uncovered by Sony Insider, the PSP Go’s processor is about 40% faster than its predecessor. The original unit was capable of about 333MHz, while the newest device, which comes out later this year, can reach 480MHz.

What does this all mean? We’re not to sure, actually. They might have just raised the speed to use PSP Go features like accesses to an in-game XMB. However, it could definitely make a difference in-terms of games and maybe one day we could see PSP Go exclusives. Although, if that were the case, don’t expect to see anything anytime soon. In fact, even though the portable system can reach faster speeds, I think Sony will most likely lock it to the current 333MHz, much like they did when the PSP first came out.
If the company feels like they need to sell more PSP Go units, that is when we could most likely see the increase of speeds and exclusives.

When the PSP GO was finally announced by Sony at this past E3, the company confirmed that the updated device would not include a UMD drive. What this ultimately means to people who are planning to buy the new unit, is that they will only be able to purchases digital copies of their games. This was already widely speculated because rumors occurring before the revealing of the portable system.
However, the big question on everyone’s mind was how much of the already large library of existing games would be available for download when the system launches. So far, Jeff Rubenstein over on the official PlayStation Blog is the only person to address the inquiry most of us had. “It’s my understanding that just about everything hitting after October 1 will be available for download,” he wrote on the site.
He went on to say that when a first-party game is shipped to retail stores, that is when we can expect to see them in the PlayStation Network for download. Although, any title not published by Sony would be up to that particular company when they would want it available on PSN.
Now, as great as this sounds — I have a hard time believing “everything” will be made available. I’m guessing that some obscure title that released in 2004 won’t necessarily be accessible on PSN. Assuming that is the case, this would probably mean only games that are still, for the most part, in ‘print’ are going to be obtainable in PSN.
The PSP GO will be in stores on October 1, 2009.

Guess what, we don’t have to wait until Tuesday to see the first images of the heavily rumored PSP GO! thanks to the PlayStation Network newsletter Qore, pictures of newly designed handheld have been leaked onto the internet.
Most of the gossip surrounding the features of the unit did become true. The PSP GO! will include a screen that will slide upward and feature the same button layout, also there will be no UMD slot-drive and the only way people can play games is to download them using the PSN Store. The only thing missing from the rumors is the touch screen interface.
A video was also leaked online, which we embedded after the jump, that confirmed three unannounced PSP entries; Metal Gear Solid, Jak and Gran Turismo. However, no images or video has been revealed for the games themselves.
While the unit certainly looks snazzier than its predecessors, I’m not terribly impressed with the new look. It looks to much like the artist rendition that has been floating around the net for sometime, which is a little unoriginal in my book.
Although I have one bigger complaint already, why not include two freaking analog sticks, and why is the only one it includes, still small!? I just think this is lazy development on their part. I would have loved to play some great first-person shooters on the handheld, but without two analogs, I don’t see that happening.

It should be noted that Sony does not intend to make the PSP GO! a replacement to their existing models, it is for now — an upgrade.
Even though Sony has continually said that the PSP GO! was not in development, the truth has finally come out. And I wonder; how much longer Sony will keep whomever leaked the video employed?
After the jump, check out more images and the video for the PSP GO!
