The Japanese Yahoo website has just announced that Nintendo is remaking Pokémon Gold & Silver for the DS. Last Sunday, a Pokémon variety show in Japan, hinted at the idea of a possible remake, and promised some kind of announcement this upcoming Sunday. It looks like Yahoo beat them to the punch.
Gold & Silver was the second installment in in the famous RPG game, which was released in 1999. The reason for the games to be released once again, is to coincide the celebration of the 10th anniversary since both games were launched on the Gameboy.
The remakes are expected to debut in Japan this fall, and there has yet to be a mention for a US or European release. Although, it’s likely we will here some kind of unveiling at this year’s E3. Make sure to check back with us.

Pokémon is huge in Japan. Sure, it is still big over here in the states, but in the ‘Land of the Rising Sun’, it is bigger. It’s so popular that the country has a Pokémon Sunday variety show, and I’m sure some Americans are so obsessed with the RPG, watch the Japanese show — even if they don’t speak the language. Yes, those people are scary, Virginia.
During the last episode of the variety show, it was announced that next week they are expect to reveal something that has to do with Pokémon. As they were speaking about next week’s announcement, gold and silver balls proceed to come into frame, and were being hung from the celling.
Many people are speculating that this means Nintendo is planning on remaking Pokémon Gold & Silver for the Nintendo DS, which doesn’t sound all that far-fetched. And honestly, it probably gets some creepy 30 year-old overly excited.
Anyway, check back at /gamer on Sunday and if it’s a video game Pokémon revealing, we’ll report it.
