Mark down March 17th because that’s when one of the best first-person shooters of-all-time is making a return. Microsoft has announced that Perfect Dark, the classic title for the Nintendo 64, is getting its re-released on that day for 800 Microsoft Points. Microsoft has also revealed that from March 3-30 is when Xbox Live House Party will take place.
According to them, House Party is playing host to some of the most anticipated titles for Xbox Live, which obviously includes the spiritual successor to Goldeneye. Including Perfect Dark — three games will be part of the ‘House Party’ and if gamers buy all, they be refunded 400 Microsoft Points. If they are already a Gold subscriber, they’ll get one month free to Xbox Live.
The two other games are Toy Soldiers; which comes out on March 3rd and Scrap Metal; which has a release date March 10th. While I’m sure the other games will be fun, I’m craploads more excited for Perfect Dark. During the PSX and N64 generation, Perfect Dark was, and in many ways still is \, one of the best games to play with friends. But thanks to Xbox Live, I’ll be able to play with the same people as I did almost ten years ago, over the online service. I get the feeling Rare is about to take a lot of my time once again…
After the jump, check out a description for each game. (more…)

According to CVG, Rare was underway developing a sequel to the launch game Kameo for the Xbox 360. Sadly, the adventure game will never see the light of day because the company wants to focus more on Project Natal. Although, having poor sales for the first title didn’t help the chances of seeing a second installment, especially since it was one of the first games to be released for the system.
In the same report from CVG, another popular Rare title was also in talks of getting a green lit sequel. However, the actual name of the game was not released. Back in 2005, Rare released another title on launch day for the Xbox 360, and it was Perfect Dark Zero, the prequel to Perfect Dark for the Nintendo 64. The N64 version was the spiritual sequel to the blockbuster first-person shooter Goldeneye; many even thought Perfect Dark was better than 007, including me. When the prequel arrived on the same day for the Xbox 360, the chances of seeing a third PD in the future quickly faded. While it didn’t suck, it wasn’t great either and Call of Duty 2 overshadowed it on launch day.
In retrospect, Microsoft might have been planning on releasing a third Perfect Dark and possibly making it a franchise for the Xbox 360. But when the second one was met with not-so-great reviews, the idea was probably scrapped. Remember, Rare plans on releasing the original Perfect Dark on Xbox Live Arcade. If sales prove to be strong, maybe the studio will take the chance to developed a third installment.

If you are like me and love the original Perfect Dark, than hearing Major Nelson confirm on his twitter that it would be coming to Xbox Live Arcade was welcoming news. For the last few months, Rare was teasing (or it was a mistake) us with various photos of Joanna Dark as an avatar on Xbox Live. During E3, we finally got a tweet from Nelson which revealed that it was indeed coming to XBLA.
Not only are we getting to relive the classic first-person shooter once again on Microsoft’s system, the re-release will feature 1080p resolution, run at 60 frames-per-second and probably Xbox Live online multiplayer support. It sounds like it will appear on the online service this winter, which was all revealed by Nelson.
Up top is one of a few screens that have been released so far for the XBLA game, and click here to check out the rest. You can tell it is obviously updated when compared to its N64 predecessor.

If you don’t remember, not to long ago we posted a picture that was directly from Rare and “mistakenly” showed a Perfect Dark avatar for Xbox Live. The picture of Joanna Dark was under the tag “Played Games,” which fueled more rumors that the classic first-person shooter was coming to Xbox Live.
Now, a reader at Destructoid sent the picture above, which was taken from Brazil. The picture features the same avatar of Joanna Dark, but this time it was under the Xbox Achievement categories. Further suggesting Perfect Dark is indeed coming to XBLA, or it is a sick ploy by Rare to tease us with lies. Although, I doubt that, because the company has already released other N64 games, Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie.
Hopefully we hear an official announcement soon.

Did Rare just announced the original Perfect Dark on Xbox Live Arcade, when they were not supposed to? Maybe. While talking about a brand new Banjo-Kazooie theme being released on Xbox Live Marketplace, the company released this screenshot we posted above. If you look click on it and check out the box on the far right; under latest games, you’ll notice a Joanna Dark avatar. Also, this Joanna Dark does not look like the Xbox 360 version, but the N64 one.
Obviously we know about the many rumors that have appeared on the Internet about PD making its way to XBLA even though, time after time, Rare has denied it. Hopefully, this proves one day the rumors were indeed correct
