Face it, Mortal Kombat is only around because of a few reasons. First the blood and second, ‘the Fatality‘. If those two things didn’t exist in the series, we would have forgotten about Liu Kang and Sub-Zero along time ago. There I said it — even though I’m a sucker for the franchise, I understand why it belongs in video game lore and it’s not because of the gameplay.
So naturally when Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe was announced awhile back, we all wondered — how will the Fatalities be? Over time we received our answer and for the most part — like many of you, I personalty wasn’t a fan.
While not every single one is the worst thing since moldy sliced bread, just a lot of them…suck. And what’s even more terrible is that we’ve seen some of them before in the previous installments of MK. And don’t get me started with the cop-out ‘Heroic Brutalities.’
Anyway, if you decided you didn’t want to waste your money on the game (not that its bad), but your still interested in the death/beating sequences — check out the video above. It shows every one in its entirety…try to enjoy.

Here we go, another video featuring fatalities in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. This time we get to see Liu Kang, Batman and Baraka. To start this off, I find this video the best collection released thus far. However, that isn’t saying much.
First up is Liu Kang, as much as I laughed when I saw it — I figured out its pretty much the exact same fatality as his finishing move in Mortal Kombat 3. And honestly, it doesn’t make much sense either. Somehow an original Mortal Kombat machine falls out of the sky and kills his opponent.
The next fighter featured is Batman. I find the concept neat, but the execution is meh. Batman throws a ‘Dark Knight‘ device at his enemy and bats swarm his opponent. As they were attacking him, I was hoping to see the figure become a skeleton, but then I remembered — Batman doesn’t kill anyone in the game…lame.
Last and hopefully least was Baraka. I really don’t have anything to say about this — did Midway just forget how to be creative?

Here we go again. Midway as released three more characters from Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe featuring their fatalities. Sonya, Catwoman and Sub Zero show their skills on how they kill someone. Unfortunately, how they kill their opponent is lame.
However, out of all the ones that have been shown recently, Sub-Zero so far has the best finishing move out of all of them. He grabs his enemy, holds him up in the air until he freezes and slams him on the ground. Even without the bloody mess that would have been ensued if the title was rated ‘M’ — it’s still pretty cool.
Sadly, the same can’t be said about Catwoman nor Sonya’s fatality. And its painful to watch…

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is disappointing us more and more. A couple of days ago we showed a video featuring three finishing moves that could have been the worst fatalities in the Mortal Kombat series. But in the same article, we wanted to reiterate that the Joker ‘Fatality’ could be the best in the History of Mortal Kombat — so we still had confidence in seeing better finishing moves. Well, thanks to DC Comics demanding a Teen rated fighter, the move has been censored.
The first time it was shown, the Fatality consisted of the Joker pulling out a gun to his opponent’s head and pulling the trigger. Just like in a cartoon, instead of a bullet coming out — a flag with “BANG” printed on it was shown. The Joker’s opponent would then look around and shrug his or hers shoulders — and gave the expression like, wtf is wrong with him? Right after that, the Joker takes another gun out of his jacket, points it to the other fighter’s head and shoots — only this time its real and he/she is dead. the Joker would then start to laugh uncontrollably. It was again, probably the best in the history of Mortal Kombat.

In order to get the dreadful Teen rating, the ESRB must have deemed the move to be too violent. Because Midway has edited the ending according Kotaku. Instead of showing the fighter getting shot, he/she is now noticeably not on the screen. To prevent the reenactment of a gruesome death.
We want everyone to know the game is still good — even with a ‘Teen‘ rating. But we also believe Mortal Kombat was an important part of the video game industry and the series is easily one of the originators of developing violent games on the home consoles. With the next MK looming, we just think it’s a step backwards. Lets face it — the reason why Mortal Kombat became what it is today, is because of the violence. It grew controversy, and therefore sold incredibly well. The game’s fighting engine back in the day wasn’t very good — although what made it fun, was how simple the controls were.
Only recently, the fighter has included a deeper fighting system. But if you were to compare it to Soul Calibur and/or Tekken, it’s still far away from having a deep system.
If you were to ask us, we would have preferred of having Mortal Kombat characters fighting their own and leaving out the stars of DC Universe. Mortal Kombat vs Mortal Kombat could have been just as fun but with an added feature — blood and gruesome deaths. However we understand over time that can get boring, but at least in the beginning it would have been more entertaining then it as now. And no question in our book — we would have enjoyed it considerably more than fighting as ‘Wonder Woman.’
We we understand business is business and having the DC characters included, will ultimately make the game sell even better. But that doesn’t mean we’re happy.

Midway has released a video showing off three finishers from three different fighters in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Before I talk about them, the first time I saw the Joker’s ‘Fatality,’ I was kind of excited what I could expect from the game. I thought the Jokers finisher had a lot of personality and maybe even one of the better moves in the Mortal Kombat series. Because of the originality of the death, I thought maybe Ed Boon would focus more on personally and humor because of the lack of blood included in the fighter.
Boy was I wrong, in the video above — you’ll be able to view the Green Lantern, Raiden and the Flash controlling the fate who they’re pitted against. On a side note — when a DC Hero finishes of his opponent off, it’s not called a ‘Fatality‘ but described as a ‘Heroic Brutality.’ (more…)

Midway has announced a date for their next upcoming fighter Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. On November 16, the anticipated fighter will be in stores in North America and in Europe on November 21. The fighter is a landmark for the Mortal Kombat series as they will fight for the first time against comic book characters. It will also be the first time a Mortal Kombat game will NOT be rated a Mature title but instead be slapped with a Teen rating.
Although the game will feature blood, it’ll be at a bare minimal and the fatalities will be less violent than its predecessors. While the DC heros have an option to finish their opponent, they will NOT kill them but beat them severely and teach them a ‘lesson.’
Even though there is a significance difference with this Mortal Kombat, I’m still looking forward to it and believe that even some of the fatalities are more creative — even without the ultra gore.

Midway released the Box Art for their upcoming epic fighter, Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe – complete with the ugly character models that are found in the game.
However, I do find the concept of having one side of the MK fighters looking directly at the DC Heros a great idea. Although, why didn’t they include a villain like the Joker? I would’ve gladly traded Wonder-Woman for the Joker on the box any day…wait is that sexiest!?

Midway’s controversial fighter in the gaming community has announced the complete list of the selectable characters in Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Shao Kahn, Baraka, Lex Luther, and Darkseid all join the impressive roster. Since the debut last April, MK vs DC has been criticized by fans of both franchise and both asked the question ‘why?’
Over time fans of the two have both excepted the idea of the fighter and many have even started to embrace the idea after this past E3. Even though the gore has been tamed, the basic mechanics and fun factor has remained the same, and even some fatalities like the Joker’s could even be more creative then the previous Mortal Kombats’.
Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is scheduled to come out on November 10, 2008 in the US.
After the Jump, look at the complete list o fighters to be featured. (more…)

Truegameheadz has over 8 minutes of video for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. The biggest thing that is included in the footage is Scorpion doing his Fatality to Batman around the 3:00 mark.
Even though the game impresses me more than it did way back when I first heard about Midway developing it, I’m still very scared on how the characters move. They seems clunky when they walk and fight. Much like how they moved in the last few MK games.

The first screenshot of Scorpion doing his classic fatality in the new Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe game has made it’s way onto the interwebs. The first time we heard about the fighter we were concerned, but over time it’s starting to surprising us. After seeing the Joker laugh as he shoots a gun in the head of a MK character, we notice that Ed Boon and company are trying to give the game a little personality. Even though the gore is toned down, seeing the level of detail of Sub-Zero burning would give any future serial killer goosebumps.
The game will be in stores on November 10 for both Xbox 360 and PS3.
Check out a new commercial after the jump. (more…)

For those who saw the Joker fatality around the web a few days ago and thought it was fake (some people did), Gametrailers have finally proven that it is indeed included in the game. In the video above, Hector Sanchez talked about the Joker’s fighting style and finisher featured in the game.
For those who don’t want it is, the Joker ends the life of his opponent by first taking out a gun and pulling the trigger, but being the prankster that he is – instead of a bullet coming out, it’s a “bang” flag that you would see in a cartoon. The Joker proceeds to laugh uncontrollably and spins around in circles. After he’s finished being amused he than pulls out another gun, only this time he shoots them in the head for real and continues his laughter. This could be the most creative fatalities in the history of the series, it shows how much the Joker is F’ed up in the head. Check out the video above with sound of the killing.

Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat franchises had a interview with Kotaku at this year’s Comic-Con, and spilled some beans about the next installment of MK after Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe.
He promised that the next Mortal Kombat will in fact have more blood and violence that would warrant the adult franchise to have a rating that it deserves-M (mature). It really is starting to look like – Boon didn’t have anyway of making MK vs DC a Mature rated game, and that Midway pushed this game into development. I’ve been hearing some people say around the industry that if MK vs DC doesn’t sell the numbers Midway hopes, that the MK franchise could be dead. For all the MK fan’s out there, don’t listen to them, MK is a money maker and always (for now) will be. No matter what happens, Mortal Kombat’s 9th installment will return with more death.
