Over a half of billion sports games published by EA have been played online since the 2009 games have been in the stores, which the first was released in June of 2008. If you were to mathematically calculate on average how many games are played online each day, it would equal out to about 2.2 million. Which is about about the population of Houston, TX.
The two-top games played are Madden 09 and FIFA 09, while six other games are played online. “The massive migration to online gaming has transformed the video game landscape, and this week’s 500 millionth online EA Sports game highlights the radical shift that we’ve helped pioneer in the industry,” said EA Sports president Peter Moore. “Online gameplay allows real-time competitions with fans from around the world who speak the global language of sports,” he added.
It’s pretty amazing for me personally to see how far online play has come — especially sport games. I remember hooking up my Sega Dreamcast to the Internet using a 56k connection and noticeably playing NFK 2K1. Knowing where we are now in just under 10 years, fascinates me and I wonder where we’ll be in another 10 years.

Now that the NFL season is over (does anyone watch the Pro Bowl?), and I’ve finished my 6th franchise season in Madden ‘09, I’ve been thinking of the things that need to be added, changed, deleted, and tweaked for Madden 2010. Even though this year’s product was better than last year’s, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
So in no particular order, I give you 25 things that should be fixed for Madden 2010.
Use the ESPN License! – Why pay for a license you will never use? ESPN could be used to significantly improve the presentation. Imagine: pregame, halftime, postgame, and weekly wrap-up shows, complete with highlights and stats, presented by the NFL Live hosts. Play by play from the Monday Night Football crew.

Entertainment Weekly’s newest issue features their annual “Best & Worst of 2008” awards. It’s the issue were they rank their favorite and not so favorite movies, TV shows, books and so on.
In the same issue, the publication actually has a section devoted to video games. Of course, the section is one of the last pages in the magazine, but hey; at least they mentioned it, right?
Now, you might be wondering what did they choose for best game of the year and we’ll tell ya– but we want to full warn you; you might be disappointed.
If you thought the VGA’s pick of Grand Theft Auto IV was a bad decision, than I’m guessing you’re going to hate this. Are you ready? Ok — they picked Wii Fit as the best of the best of 2008. Not LittleBigPlanet, GTA or even Left 4 Dead (that didn’t even make the list). Oddly enough, the iPod Touch was ranked at number 10 — last time I check, that isn’t even a video game

We like to note that they fail to honor such great games that were released this year like; Gears of War 2, Prince of Persia, Metal Gear Solid 4, World of Goo, Left 4 Dead, Fable II, Fallout 3, Resistance 2 and many others. But for some reason, they thought Madden: All Play for the Wii was superior than those mentioned above.
EW also mentioned the “Top 3 Worst Games of 2008.” Number one was Saints Row 2, which actually had higher reviews than their top choice. Number two was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which honestly wasn’t horrible. And their number three worst game…EA’s Facebook Scrabble…why is that even mentioned!?
After the jump, check out the full list and feel free to complain. (more…)

If you live in a ‘battle ground’ state that would be considered a tossup for choosing the next President of the United States and play Burnout: Paradise, than you might have seen Barack Obama’s mug in the game. Senator Obama is the first candidate to use ‘in-game’ advertisements to campaign for an election. It was announced in a statement by EA — the Obama campaign has also purchased ad space for nine other EA titles including Madden and NBA Live.

EA Spokeswoman Holly Rockwood wouldn’t not go into detail about how much each ad cost, but did talk about why a candidate would find video games appealing to advertise in:
“It reaches an audience that is typically hard to reach — young males, roughly 18 to 34. That’s very appealing to our advertisers.”
It should be also noted that EA did ask the McCain camp if they wanted to run ads in EA published games, but they declined.
If you’re going to turn on your Xbox 360 and/or PS3 and hope to see Obama, you must live in the following states:
Ohio
Florida
Iowa
Colorado
Indiana
Montana
North Carolina
New Mexico
Nevada
Wisconsin

Most people agree, watching football while John Madden is in the booth, he doesn’t really give any information you don’t already know. You could have a small child doing the commentary and you might learn more of the game.
