Gears of War Xbox 360 Bundle Coming to Australia, US Next?

Microsoft has revealed a new Xbox 360 system bundle for the Land Down Under. The company is releasing a package that includes a Xbox 360 Pro console, controller and Gears of War 1 & 2. On top of all this, they also get the awesome box art to go along with it (top).

Australians will see the system bundle arrive in stores on June 4th, and will retail for AUD $449 ($350). Microsoft has yet to announce a similar bundle outside of Australia, but my guess we should see a confirmation sometime during E3.

Gears of War 2 DLC Coming on March 31, Trailer Below

On March 31, 2009, Epic Games plans on releasing more downloadable content for Gears of War 2. The DLC is titled Snowblind, which features four ‘new’ maps: Grindyard, Under Hill, Courtyard and Fuel Depot. Some will feel new, while others will be the same level design from another game, but with added snow…get it? It’s called Snowblind — clever one, Epic! The pack will cost you 800 MS Points, or what banks would call $10.

We would find some screenshots and include them, but we’ll just include a video up top. We generally like motion because that’s how we play games. If you wanted pictures, read a book or something.

Writer for Gears of War 2 Says the Series is a “Ten-Year Plan”

When Gear of War 2 was released last year, I was thinking how long Epic plans on sticking with the series. Obviously, the success of the two games meant we were definitely going to see a few more before they decided to end the franchise, but the question remained — how many?

During a New York Comic-Con panel, the writer of Gears of War 2 Joshua Ortega might have answered my question. When asked what the future holds for the action shooter, Ortega said:

“You will not be disappointed in the next ten years. It’s a ten-year plan. Gears is long-term. The lancer is the new lightsaber.”

Now we just want to confirm with all with you that we do NOT believe “the lancer is the new lightsaber.” Now that we got that out of the way, seeing Gears of War last for another 10 years doesn’t sound that far fetched. If a Gears game is released every two years, which isn’t unreasonable, we would have about five more games remaining. And remember, the company doesn’t need to release ’sequel after sequel,’ they can also experiment with a few prequels and spinoffs.

Also, take in consideration of how many Mario’s and Zelda’s Nintendo have put out over the years — five more games actually seems a little less than I would expect.

Video: Glitches in Gears of War 2

Gears of War 2 is awesome — when it runs good…and when people do not glitch every second. Okay, it has some major problems, but despite its flaws it is still a fantastic game. Which is somewhat remarkable when you think about it, Gears has a ton of issues, but somehow it’s in contention for ‘game of the year,’ from most sites and magazines. Seriously, how many games could get away with that!? Somehow Cliff Bleszinski always gets a pass and we’re amazed.

Even though Gears has been critically acclaimed, that has not stopped people from bitching about some of the major bugs included with the shooter. And honestly, they have a legitimate argument to make. Don’t believe us? Just watch the video up top.

Again, we’re not saying it’s a bad game; in fact we love it. However, we just wish the persistent problems the game features will one day end. But we are not holding are breath!

VGA: DLC for Gears of War 2 Up on Live in a Few Hours

Spike’s Video Game Awards is set to bring exclusive news during the show broadcast. The first big bomb shell of the night is for the game Gears of War 2. Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Marisa Miller (boobies) announced that Epic Games’ shooter will release a brand new map pack that will be ‘Combustible.’ It’ll also feature a new level for one of the cooler aspects of the game, the Horde.

Get this — the content will be available in just a few mere hours. Starting at 3:00AM EST/12PM PST, Xbox Live owners will have the opportunity to download the content. As far as pricing goes; we’re just not sure. But expect to pay at least $5.

Or maybe Epic will be generous and give it to us for free like they did with the original Gears. Doubt it, but hey we can hope.

Gears of War 2: Most Played Game on Xbox Live

Since Call of Duty 4 was released almost a year ago, Activision enjoyed it’s first person shooter being the most played Xbox Live game almost every week. For the most part, Call of Duty 4 would be number one, while Halo 3 would be the second. On occasion, it would flip flop.

Well, it looks like those two games have a competitor and naturally Gears of War 2 is set to complete. Since the week of November 10, Gears 2 beat both COD4 and Halo 3. How long will that last for, who knows — but we guess it’s not going anywhere soon. Will it win for 52 weeks in a row? Probably not, but I also wouldn’t bet against it either.

Below is the full list:

1. Gears of War 2
2. Call of Duty 4
3. Halo 3
4. CoD: World at War
5. Left 4 Dead Demo
6. Fable II
7. GTA IV
8. Fallout 3
9. Madden NFL 09
10. Gears of War

Beyonce Refuses to Fly Without Her Xbox and PSP

Wow, talk about being a true diva. Superstar singer Beyonce Knowles refused to fly to Monaco for the ‘World Music Awards‘ unless she got what she wanted. Organizers of the show already had plans to fly the “Bootylicious” star in the same private jet that had flown such legendary artists Frank Sinatra and Elton John. It recently even transported Jennifer Lopez.

However Beyonce, being the brat that she is, demanded that the show fly her in a ‘newer’ aircraft but also include a few video games, a source said;

“She also wanted 14 seats, including two for herself. And staff were told to give her whatever she wanted – including an Xbox, PSP, Jacuzzi and a pizza.”

Even though I find her being a bit spoiled because she wanted a better jet, than the already awesome one that was offered — I can understand her wanting an Xbox. I mean seriously, Gears of War 2 has just been released — SHE NEEDS TO PLAY IT!

Gears Sells 2.1 Million Copies on the First Day

Surprise -Surprise, Microsoft’s exclusive shooter Gears of War 2, sold incredibly well. Epic’s latest hit sold about 2.1 million copies of the critically acclaimed game and puts it in a great place to be one of the biggest titles on the system.

In the United States, Gears sold approximately 1.4 million on Friday while selling another 700,000 units in other counties. However, compared to Halo 3’s launch, Gears of War 2 would be about two-thirds short of Bungie’s first-person-shooter. However, when you compare some factors of Halo 3, what Gears did is remarkable.

Not only is Halo 3 the third game in the series — it’s Microsoft’s flagship title. Just remember the amount of money Microsoft spent for the marketing of the game — nearing the $40 million mark. Gears of War 2 didn’t nearly have the push that Halo had, so seeing what Gears did — is even more amazing.

Full Intro For Gears of War 2

Epic Games have released a video of the opening scene from Gears of War 2. The 1:58 footage shows how more mature the sequel of Gears has become. No foul language that seemed unnecessary at times which plagued the first game. The second installment seems to go after a serious tone unlike the original story. But we could have obviously figured that out after the ‘Last Day‘ trailer released about a week ago.

Gears of War 2
will be released this Friday — get excited!

Fanboys Ruin MetaCritic Feature

Look fanboy’s, you’ve ruined a feature that is on MetaCritic. If some of you don’t know, before LittleBigPlanet was released in stores — jealous fanboys that couldn’t own the game because they didn’t have a PS3 decided to bash it. One way they figured out how to make the game seem like it’s a failure was to go on to MetaCritic and give it a low ‘user score.’ As opposed to doing the classy thing and admit their system doesn’t feature a game that they obviously want — they need to criticizes it as much as they can.

Now, with Gears of War 2 on the horizon, more fanboys needed to express their hatred by giving it a low score — even without playing it. As of now, the game is receiving an average score from actual critics a 94/100. However, users are giving it a dismal score of 3.5/10. This new way of ‘bashing’ has got so out of control, the editor of the site had to take action. March Doyle confirmed with 1up that they are going to make sure in the future, this won’t happen again.

“My advice for our faithful users is to focus your attention on the Metascore for this game and not the thousands of user votes, most of which have been submitted before said users have played the game. This is a gaming community, and if people want to stuff the ballot box, there’s not much I can do at this point. When we upgrade the registration requirements for participation on the site in the near future, this type of thing won’t happen. We’ll post the full legitimate user reviews upon the game’s release. As always, thanks for using the site.”

So, thank you fanboys, a featured that we once had is now gone because of your immaturity. However, this isn’t just limited to MetaCritic and the video games world. According to /film, during this past summer — many fanboys of ‘The Dark Knight‘ decided to go on IMDB and try to lower the score of the ‘Godfather.’ What that ultimately did was briefly had the Batman flick become the number one movie of all time. Pretty pathetic if you ask us.

Gears of War 2: 20,000 Retail Stores are Having a Midnight Launch

Microsoft’s flagship title for this holiday season Gears of War 2 is set to be released in just a few days. Retailers are also planning the game to become a smash hit because according to Microsoft, as many as 20,000 stores across the globe are participating in a midnight launch. Meaning, if you’re wondering if your local game store is having a midnight opening — the answer is probably yes.

Launch Trailer for Gears of War 2

The launch trailer for Gears of War 2 is now online. Unlike the last video where we saw teamwork between the main characters with pretty music playing in the background — instead we get a crap-load of action, with F’n a ton of explosions.

Epic Studios is not only promising the fantastic gameplay that we loved in the original game, but guaranteeing it will be better. They also swear this time around the story surrounding the game will be great and that was the main focus when they were creating the game. However, judging by the voiceovers in the trailer — the acting probably wasn’t as important to them because it sounded somewhat poor. Hopefully that doesn’t effect us enjoying the plot of the game.
Gears of War 2 will be released in stores on November 7, 2008.

Gears of War 2 Boss Battle Leaked

Update: As you can tell when you press play — the video is no longer available…

**Spoiler Alert — Spoiler Alert**. Ok, you’ve been warned. The user cupcakerum leaked a video of an epic boss battle in Gears of War 2 and it’s nothing like anything we’ve seen in the previous Gears.

The 1:54 clip shows Marcus Fenix on some kind of boat on the water. The music is intense so obviously something big is about to happen. Then suddenly a tentacle rises from the water and slams on the boat — its up to the player not to get hit by it. At points, the tentacle seems to get stuck on the raft and Marcus runs over to it and chainsaws it, with blood going all over the screen. After a few times of the tentacles getting sawed off, some HUGE water monster appears and bites down on the boat.

Although we’re not sure how to defeat him overall — we do know not to get to close because the guy playing the game did and now he’s dead.

R.I.P. Marcus Fenix

Gears of War’s “Last Day” Trailer

Do you remember the ‘Mad World‘ trailer that came out for the original Gears of War in 2006? It was probably one of the better gaming advertisements in the history of the industry. With the sequel right around the corner, it looks like Epic Games is trying to recreate something similar to Mad World with their new trailer.

The one minute trailer features the song “How it Ends” by the Denver band Devotchka. The video shows off some of your favorite stars from the game as opposed to just one. While the trailer is obviously trying to capture the feel of ‘Mad World,’ which gave the viewer a human element. This one is a little different. The first trailer in 2006 was showing Marcus Fenix being alone in a world which was destroyed around him. The new commercial is about team work and how they must stick together as a ‘family’ in order to survive.

Beautiful stuff!
