Rant: GameStop Didn’t Honor Their Own Promotion

Recently, we posted a story about a big sale that GameStop is offering to their customers. In the article we mentioned how Guitar Hero Aerosmith (just the game) was selling for only $9.99, and the retailer was also giving away a free Xplorer Guitar with the purchase of the game, a $40 value. Generally when a company has a promo for an item, they for the most part, don’t allow it to be combined with another deal. I’m assuming most of you already know that, but if you don’t, you surely have seen it in advertisements. When the fine print says; “not combined with any other offer,” this is what it means. However, for now, Gamestop has failed to mention that stipulation with the Guitar Hero Aerosmith deal. In fact, I talked to a manager over the phone this morning and he confirmed that it does indeed work.

After the jump, continue reading how GameStop didn’t honor their own promotion.

Gamestop Earn $8.8 Billion in 2008, Expects to Grow 10% in 2009

According to the Gamestop, the company made about $8.8 billion in sales in 2008. Yes, this is not a misprint — $8.8 billion! These numbers are actually up from 2007, were they reported making an estimated $7.1 billion last year.

Not only did the retail giant make over a billion dollars more than 2007, the company believes they will increase their growth even more next year. Gamestop is predicting in 2009, the company will grow approximately 10% more. How on earth are they going to accomplish this, you might ask? By opening even more stores worldwide. This year alone, Gamestop expects to open about 400 new stores — ranging from the US to Europe.

If these numbers end up holding true, somehow Gamestop is clearly doing well — where most companies are slashing jobs left and right. Maybe every single corporation should hire annoying 16 year olds, and then the economic crisis would end, am I right?

Gamestop to Stop Accepting the Trade-Ins for the Original Xbox

We all know the original Xbox has been dying a quick death. We also understand that a game has not come out for the system for a few years now. But that did not stop GameStop selling and accepting trade-ins for the 7 year old system. But the retail company is about to put the final nail in the coffin.

Destructoid chatted away with some managers who work for the company and according to them, GameStop will no longer accepting trade-ins on hardware, games or accessories — starting February 9, 2009. The company had been selling the late-console, hoping to attract lower income families and people just starting to enter the video game world (yes newbies). However, we figure with the declining economy and this generation of systems becoming cheaper — the company has decided to get completely rid of its remaining inventory of the original Xbox. They also can free up a lot of space — which is important in retail.

It was a good system, but its time has defiantly come.

R.I.P. You were a kind friend and more reliable than your brother — the 360.

Sacramento: 5 Gamestop’s Robbed at Gunpoint in 10 Days

The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a series of robberies at local Gamestops in and around the city. Over the span of last 10 days, there have been a total of 5 gunpoint robberies and police believe they are related. In each case, at least two men walked into a Gamestop with a shotgun demanding money from both the store and customers. The report describes the men as African American and/or Latino between the ages of 18 to early 20s. They have a height between 5′9 to 6′4 and weigh about 200 pounds.

Sacramento Police is encouraging anyone with any information regarding the crimes to call the sheriff’s department at (916) 874-5115. Also anonymous calls are eligible for a $1,000 for information on their whereabouts.

What’s disturbing about these crimes against the gaming retail giant over the last few years, is the fact that many of the stores still do not have security cameras needed to help catch the criminals like the ones above. As the company continues to grow and the same with the industry, this is something Gamestop should probably look into. Thankfully, we know at least one of the stores that was hit, did have a camera — as you can see with the pic above.

Gamestop Thinks Gamers Love Porn (They’re Right!)

Gamestop warns that if you don’t ask for a game from their company this holiday season, your parents will find the endless amount of porn under your bed — according to their latest advertisement.

However, little does the gaming retail giant know, us gamers don’t hide porn under our bed. You see, we store all of it in our hard drive or use ‘youtube’ type sites.

Nice try Gamestop — Nice try!
