Call of Duty: World at War Sells 11 Million COpies

Treyarch’s last installment of Call of Duty was a success and not just because fans of the series enjoyed, which was something that can’t be said about their last COD game. According to Activision, Call of Duty: World at War has sold roughly 11 million units since it launched in November. In the first month alone, World art War sold 1.88 million, the following month it moved approximately 1.86 million. After that, it hasn’t slow to much and it is averaging about 1.2 million copies sold each month.

Not only has the game sold well in retail stores everywhere, but Activision has felt strong sales with the game’s downloadable content. Since the DLC was made first available on March 19th, up to 2 million digital transactions has happened, not a bad number at all.

This great news Treyarch, who have already been rumored on creating the next game in the series after Modern Warfare 2 is released later this year.

It also sets up Infinity Ward to see strong numbers with Modern Warfare 2, which some are projecting to have similar numbers. Because World at War sold so strongly since it was launched, I expect to see Modern Warfare 2 sell considerably better.

New Call of Duty: World at War DLC Available Tomorrow

So, we all have to wait 5 more months to get our hands on Modern Warfare 2. In the mean time, we all have to find titles to hold us over until the next Infinity Ward title is released. Now lets face it, unlike the movie industry during the summer, where a blockbuster film hits the silver screen at least once ever week, newly released videogames suck — for the most part anyway.

Thankfully, we now have downloadable content. So hopefully that can hold us over until the holidays. The team Treyarch, is about to give us some new content for Call of Duty: World at War, which will feature another zombie killing map called Shi No Numa. Not only that, the $9.99 map will also get you Banzai, Corrosion and Sub Pens.

The best part, the map-pack will be made available to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners starting tomorrow! If you own the game and you’re not entirely sold on buying the package, watch the trailer above — that should do the trick and convince you.

Surprise!: PETA Also Upset Over Dog Killings in Call of Duty

Last week, we wrote a story about a bunch of Massachusetts high school students who were bothered by the inclusion of dog killing in Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty: World at War. They were upset and confused because they thought all dogs are ‘cute and cuddly,’ which means in return, we have no right to kill the fake virtual ones. As ridiculous as it was, the folks over at PETA have now chimed in. The guys at GamePolitics received this statement from the animal lovers group:

“Not since we were pitted against Nazi attack dogs when we first escaped from Castle Wolfenstein 17 years ago have we seen such barbaric treatment of dogs in gameplay as we did in Call of Duty, World of War.

To help the folks at Activision Blizzard learn about the ethical treatment of animals, we’re offering to let them take PETA’s ‘Developing Empathy for Animals’ free of charge and are sending a package of Nintendogs games to their office.”

What’s funny, is how think Nintendogs is just a innocent dog simulator and it teaches people how to take care of a canine. Little do they know on several occasions, I’ve abused my dog in the Nintendo DS game. Not only that, I’ve neglected him for so long, I’m sure he’s sleeping in his own feces, while bugs nibble on his flesh.

High School Students Upset Over Dog Killings in Call of Duty

If any of you have played Call of Duty: World at War, than you know this — those killer dogs are dangerous, and they must be stopped by any means necessary. I’m sure EVERY single reader here would absolutely kill those virtual dogs, but wouldn’t dare to hurt one in real life — unless its after you, of course. A a group of Massachusetts students are think differently and are bothered by Call of Duty’s dog killings. They’re so upset, they are bringing their protest to the publisher, Activision. Breanna Lucci, who is president of the Animal Rights Club at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, spoke out against the dog violence:

“Killing dogs as a form of entertainment … over and over again. That’s one of the objects of the game. Parents need to know what they are buying their kids. Killing animals should not be a form of entertainment…
My little 12-pound Pomeranian, Winnie the Pooh, is sitting next to [my brother, who is playing CoD:WaW], and I’m thinking, ‘This looks horrible!’ My brother is a sweetheart. He won’t be killing dogs after playing. But some people might.”

Okay call me an ass, but I couldn’t stop laughing hysterically after I read “He won’t be killing dogs after playing. But some people might.” I know, maybe its wrong for me to laugh at a bunch of high school students, but come on — is that even logical? The more I see stuff similar this, I truly believe that people who are against violence in video games, have never even tried to even pick up a controller. And if they did, it was only to prove to themselves and others, how gruesome a game can be. I think that’s what is probably going on here.

I hope her loving dogs does not cloud her mind on what actually happened in World War II, you know the same war the game is based off of. The countries involved did you use dogs to attack people and anyone would do anything to defend themselves from the canines — even if it meant they had to kill them

But don’t worry Breanna, Activision did not use Winnie the Pooh’s breed in the FPS, which again is a Pomeranian. Those dogs I’m affiad, are pretty much useless (see pic below).

Call of Duty: World at War Featured in South Park

South Park for the last 7 years have used video game references in their shows. From the parody system inspired by Gamecube/Xbox called the ‘Gamesphere,’ to the ultra funny World of Warcraft episode. The series is no stranger to the video game world.

This past episode isn’t any different. While the boys are in their computer lab class and supposed to be working. However, instead of listening to the teacher, they end up playing Call of Duty: World at War. Of course the video above is not NSFW, but it’s South Park and you probably should know that by now.

Call of Duty Beta Up for Everyone on Xbox Live

If you were one of the unlucky gamers who didn’t receive an invite to Activision’s beta for Call of Duty: World at War and couldn’t sleep at night because of it — don’t worry. If you sign on Xbox Live right now and head to the marketplace, you can now download the demo beta right now. If you loved Call of Duty 4, than you should at the very least enjoy the beta because it plays almost exactly the same. Which isn’t a horrible thing, COD 4 is one of the best games to come out for this generation.

The beta consists of three levels from World War II and features weapons from that era. While we found the beta to be fun, we wonder how the hardcore COD players will feel about it using guns that take forever to load. We think many of them will be turned off because they might think the game is a step back. Although, since the beta is free, it’s at the very least worth downloading it.

Call of Duty: World at War
will be in stores on November 11, for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC, DS, Wii and PS2.

Video: Nazi Zombies Included in Call of Duty

If you had the opportunity to receive the Call of Duty beta, you might have been wondering if there were any other modes to be included in the game when the final version is in stores. Apparently there is and it’s a weird one.

Activision and Treyarch are featuring a mode were you and your buddies go into battle, but instead of fighting people, you’re shooting down the dreaded Nazi Zombies from World War II. Watching the video above — it does look entertaining and obviously heavily influenced by Valve’s Left 4 Dead. And to be honest, I’m going to stick with that instead. But when it comes to killing ‘real’ Nazi’s, COD: WoW is what I’ll use.

Call of Duty: World at War Collector’s Edition Announced

Here we go again, another game with another collector’s edition. Activision has announced the World War II game Call of Duty: World at War will try to entice customers to spend an extra $20 and buy its collector’s edition. Of course you’ll have to be interested in the products that come with it and after we tell you what they are, we’re pretty sure you will stick with the original version for 60 bucks.

The CE comes packed with the game (obviously), a metal box, a canteen you can piss in, double-XP points for a week and receive a ‘high-level’ weapon ‘early.’

The only thing that almost got me to possibly think about purchasing the more expensive pack is ‘double the XP’ points. But when I started to think about it, my blood started to boil. You’re telling me that if I spend just a little more, Activision will give me the ability to ‘cheat’ online? I know double-XP points doesn’t necessarily mean that they literally can ‘kill’ me kill me easier right away. But over time, they’ll level up faster and be able to get more/better weapons, they’ll then be able to frag me that much faster. Screw that…

Just out of principle, I’ll be sticking with the regular game.

While the Xbox 360 and PS3 CE versions will sell for $80, the PC game will be $10 cheaper and sell for $70.

Single Player Gameplay Video of Call of Duty: World at War

Another video has hit the web for Call of Duty: World at War, and I’m still sticking with my original opinion that the game is still going to be good. This time we get to see the single player portion of the game and I’m really digging watching and hearing the enemies run and scream right at you like it was the south attacking the north in the United States Civil War. It could make for some intense fire fights on the screen.

Towards the end of the clip, notice how the one of your squad members was being pelted by bullets. Instead of him falling straight to the ground, he was standing up and shaking while getting hit, just like watching a actor in a movie getting blasted by a machine gun. Treyarch has also included the gruesome knife stabbing that was featured in Call of Duty 4.

COD: WaW might not live up to the status of COD4, but it certainly looks like Treyarch is creating a pretty darn fun first person shooter experience.

No Online or Co-Op For Call of Duty: World at War on Wii

If you own either an Xbox 360/PS3 and your second system is a Wii, and you’re curious about Call of Duty: World at War, but you’re not sure what version to get. It looks like your decision just got a lot easier. The Community Manager from Treyarch known as JD, informed WiiHD that the Nintendo version of World at War will not have online multiplayer nor co-op (surprise, surprise), calling it “far-reaching” for the Wii. Video of Co-op Play for Call of Duty: World at War

When it was announced that Treyarch will would developing the the next Call of Duty, there was a crap load of hatred. I also found the negative comments were undeserving. Yes, Call of Duty 3 wasn’t anywhere near the level of COD 4 or even COD 2 . But it wasn’t like it was a awful game either. The biggest problem COD 3 had, was the online play was kind of a snooze. But Treyarch did make a pretty fun single player experience, which I thought was worthy enough for them to make another game.

Yes, we all loved the modern combat era over World War II. But at the same time, I don’t mind Treyarch doing another WW II game. Leave today’s combat to Infinity Ward.

Anyway, a new trailer has come out for COD: World at War featuring co-op play. Every time something new hits the web about the game, the more impressed I am about it. And this video is no different. The only thing that looks like it could plague co-op, could be “slow down” issues. It happens a little more then halfway through the video.

4 Screens for Call Of Duty: World at War

When I heard about the new Call of Duty was being made by Treyarch and their bringing the franchise back to World War II. Like everyone else, I was wondering why on earth are they going backwards? I’m not going to lie, after seeing the first trailer of the game, I became excited.
