More Famous 80’s Cars for Burnout Paradise

With the great response that Criterion received for releasing the “Delorean” in Burnout Paradise as downloadable content — they look to keep the 80’s theme alive. The developers have decided to create three more famous vehicles from the same decade.

First one (top) could be my favorite; the studio is calling it the Manhattan Spirit. Obviously one look at the photo, most will noticed the car is the  Ecto-1 from the film Ghostbusters. Just like the Delorean released last month, if you press the L3 button; it’ll recreate the cars famous trademark. Although, Criterion didn’t reveal what the car would do, we are guessing the sirens will go off.

The second car is called the Carson Nighthawk. Criterion describes the automobiles as being “Denied by the government and disowned by Carson, this ultra rare version of the Carson GT is the ultimate super pursuit vehicle!” Now take a guess what Car this is…yup, it is F’N Knight Rider!

The last car is named the Cavalry Bootlegger. Looking at the picture, it was a little harder for me to figure out, but as soon as I read it comes in orange; it occurred to me. They created the Dukes of Hazzard’s famously modified 1969 Dodge Charger. However, the car doesn’t have the Confederate flag embedded on it, but instead the Mexican flag. Also, if you press the L3 button while in the air, you’ll hear the “the incredible horn.”

I love what Criterion is doing with their fantastic racer and I’m not one to generally purchase DLC, but I might make an exception. No word yet when they plan on releasing these cars.

Burnout Paradise: Video of the P12 (Delorean) in Action (Yes it Hovers)

Criterion Games have put together a video featuring the P12 car that will be soon available for download for free in Burnout Paradise. In case you missed our post about the free DLC we mentioned last month, the car is essentially the Delorean time machine from the film ‘Back to the Future.’

Like we thought, the car does in fact hover, but it also does something else. When the car goes into turbo mode, two flames come out from both of the rear tires. Just like what the Delorean does when it goes back/forward in time in the famous movie. Check out the video above, it even mentions how it is fueled by something atomic (Plutonium).

Burnout to Include a ‘Toy Cars’ DLC Pack

Man, is it me or is Burnout: Paradise getting weirder and weirder? A few days ago we posted an article about a Back to the Future inspired DeLorean that even hovered when you pressed the R3 button, would be available as downloadable content for the game.

Today on the PlayStation Blog, designer at Criterion Games Simon Phipps announced that Burnout will feature a Toy Cars Pack. Yup, the vehicles are inspired by our favorite car collection from a set like ‘Hot Wheels.’

As strange as it is — I can’t wait to see them in the game.

Burnout Paradise Goes “Back to the Future”

“Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” This is pretty cool, Burnout Paradise is about to go Back to the Future with this Delorean look-alike. Not only does it look like the famous car from the classic movie, my pressing down the L3 button on the controller, it freaking hovers. Which should make for some terrific crashes.

This will be the first of 4 cars that will be available through downloadable content. However at this point, we’re not sure when that will be or how much they’ll cost.

“Great Scott!”

EA to Invest $150 Million in Digital Distribution

The future is now! CEO of EA Jon Riccitiello talked to Edge Magazine about the number of downloads on PSN the company had for the full game, Burnout Paradise. According to him, since the racing game debuted on PSN last month, the game was downloaded over 20,000 times.

Considering the game came out months ago and it still topped 20,000 downloads — that would undoubtedly make the decision to make the full game available online, a success. Because so many people decided to purchase the game on PSN, Riccitiello confirmed the company will focus more on digital distribution and will invest about $150 million into it this year alone. He even discussed why he thinks it’s a better idea than the traditional packaging:

“In the future we see slower growth in the basic packaged goods business, and higher margins, greater growth and reduced cyclicality with these new direct-to-consumer businesses.”

Of course, if you’re expecting to see the full $150 million go into full games — don’t. A lot of the cash will also support add-ons, as well help fund MMO’s like Star Wars: The Old Republic. But nonetheless, it’s still exciting. (more…)

Senator Obama Advertising His Campaign in EA Games

If you live in a ‘battle ground’ state that would be considered a tossup for choosing the next President of the United States and play Burnout: Paradise, than you might have seen Barack Obama’s mug in the game. Senator Obama is the first candidate to use ‘in-game’ advertisements to campaign for an election. It was announced in a statement by EA — the Obama campaign has also purchased ad space for nine other EA titles including Madden and NBA Live.

EA Spokeswoman Holly Rockwood wouldn’t not go into detail about how much each ad cost, but did talk about why a candidate would find video games appealing to advertise in:

“It reaches an audience that is typically hard to reach — young males, roughly 18 to 34. That’s very appealing to our advertisers.”

It should be also noted that EA did ask the McCain camp if they wanted to run ads in EA published games, but they declined.

If you’re going to turn on your Xbox 360 and/or PS3 and hope to see Obama, you must live in the following states:

Ohio
Florida
Iowa
Colorado
Indiana
Montana
North Carolina
New Mexico
Nevada
Wisconsin

The Whole Burnout Paradise Game to Be Available on PSN This Fall

EA has done something revolutionary which we all knew was inevitable. EA has made the first ever 3rd party downloadable game. Criterion Games will be releasing Burnout Paradise for the PlayStation Network at a price of $29.99 and is scheduled for this fall. It’s pretty amazing to see a game with the sheer size of Burnout and we’ll just be able to download it.

This is not good news for Gamestop. There really isn’t a chance for the video game retailer to continue to grow with their present business structure. A great example of something similar to this is the record industry. When we were growing up, how many music stores were there? Where I grew up, I could count around 5-6. Now there are only two. We can all thank Apple’s iTunes for that one. The same thing is going to eventually happen to gaming. Read the press release after the break. (more…)

Motorcycle Screens and Info for Burnout’s DLC

The best crashes in any racing game is just about to get a crap load better. Criterion is set to unleash motorcycles in their latest game-Burnout Paradise through DLC. IGN was lucky enough to play it and saying the two-wheeled vehicles, “Simply feel fantastic,” and “are a dream to drive.”

Not only will the download feature new rides, but also different times of day. Meanings we will see full day and night cycles throughout game, with the traffic changing depending on what time you’ll be driving in. If you drive during the mourning, get ready to see a traffic jams. But if you’re cruising at night, be ready to drive with nothing but an open road. IGN also noted that the DLC will add about 15 more hours to the single player game. Check out the screens after the break. (more…)
