The third installment of the city building/political game Tropico was confirmed as a PC only game a few months ago. Since its incarnation, the Tropico series has only been on the computer, however, Kalypso Media has just revealed that Tropico 3 is heading to the Xbox 360.
“The Tropico 3 release on the Xbox 360 is a first for Kalypso and marks the beginning of an exciting entry into the console market,” said Stefan Marcinek, Director of Kalypso Media Group. “Throughout 2010 Kalypso Media have plans to release four titles in tandem on both the Xbox 360 and PC. Through this we will be able to demonstrate our strong PC Line up with new multiplatform games and this gives us some great opportunities for the year ahead.”
Bulgaria based-studio Haemimont Games, who be responsible for developing the title on the PC will also be porting the game to the Xbox 360. Both versions are expected to be shipped to stores this September.

The man who could arguably be the greatest mind in video games Will Wright; confirmed at the Video Game Awards that he is already underway developing a brand new game. However, he won’t exactly indulge on his plans for the new project:
“I’m working on a big new project that I’m very excited about, but I don’t want to talk about it yet because if it takes three years to come out I don’t want people saying ‘Wow, he’s been talking about that for a loooong time.’”
It’s not like we’re surprised that he’s working on something, it’s just good to hear and a confirmation that he is. We just wonder what it could be. I wonder if it’ll be a god game?
Anyways, I know some people were disappointed with Spore, but I honestly think that has a lot to do with him speaking about that particular game for over five years. Because he put so much hype into the game — it just didn’t live up to the expectations. However, the game was great.
That said, I’m sure he understood this and learned his listen and will just shut up.
Although, I wouldn’t mind at least a small hint!

Let’s be honest, games in the 90s were not nearly on the same level as they are today. They were…much simpler back than; however that doesn’t take away the greatness of some of them. But to find a complex game then, is like trying to find a simple game today on the PS3.
Growing up, I always had this fascination with Maxis’ Sim City. The original ‘god-game’ could have been my first experience playing a complicated game. And boy did I love it. It was definitely the first time I had played something that felt like a real breathing world — and I had complete control of it. There was something about building a world class city and then in an instant; I destroyed it with a tornado. Looking back at it today, I must have had some god issues.
Flash forward more than 15 years and I still go back to play it to this day. Now get word that EA plans on bringing Sim City (resembles SC 3000) to the iPhone. Remember, the phone has a touch screen, which should make the game feel like it always belonged on the device.
I know the DS has had a few versions of the city builder game, but there is something about bringing just my phone around and not having to switch a cartridge. I also would much rather use my finger than to hold a styles.
The game is coming out this December and will sell $10. Thanks EA, I’m never going to have any battery life to talk on my phone anymore.

Microsoft isn’t dumb, they understand that LittleBigPlanet is a unique concept that could possibly be the first major system seller to come out for the console. Obviously the hardcore gamer loves the idea of creating a world from scratch, but the game also broads out to the casual gamer. Not many games can transcend both parties to enjoy the same game, but Media Molecule has done it and Microsoft gets it.
Because of the success, Microsoft looks like they have created their own version of a level editor — but this one has the potential to be deeper. Unlike LitteBigPlanet, this new ‘game’ dubbed Boku, looks to not only have a level creator but you can also create your own set of rules. The game also seems to feature a fully 3D world, instead of the 2D ‘left-to-right’ side-scroller like LittleBigPlanet. However at this point — the game isn’t nearly as detailed in the graphical department and if one day it catches up, it won’t be for along time.
There is no question for my love for LittleBigPlanet but like every other thing in life, there is always a negative and LBP certainly has them. Not being able to create a 3D world is certainly something I wouldn’t mind seeing in their endless sequels the series will eventually have. But at the same time, the game isn’t solely based creating a unbelievable world, the game also features some of the best personality in any genre. Judging by the new video Microsoft revealed — its pretty evident that is missing. Of course, it is early and that could change.

Time has an article that lists the ‘Top-50 Inventions of 2008.’ What might come to a surprise to some — is Will Wright’s ‘Spore‘ was listed as #20. The game edged out other inventions such as; Bionic Contacts, an Invisibility Cloak and Barack Obama. The game was picked because of its mind-boggling concept of evolution, that should be confusing but somehow Wright made it into a ’simple’ video game.
“It’s blasphemy, brilliance or both to take the entire evolution of a species — from a single-celled animalcule in a drop of water to a space-faring, galaxy-exploring sentient being — and turn it into a video game. But that’s exactly what Will Wright has done.”
Head over to Time and see the entire list.

Hey everyone look, Will Wright has made a game and crap loads of people bought it. EA Maxis has sold over 1 million copies of their evolution game Spore since it was released on September 7th. The god-game numbers are based off of the Nintendo DS, PC and Mac platforms.
If you were to total up the number of people who bought the game and counted every creature that was made, it would equal well over 25 million species. It’s incredible when you stop and think about it. Although, the real number I want to see is the percentage of the animals that were made — how many of them would be considered Penis Monsters?

From her song “I Kissed a Girl” fame, Katy Perry has been officially remade in The SIms 2: Apartment Life world thanks to EA. But it goes even further because she has recorded a full song called “Hot & Cold,” for the games soundtrack…But it goes EVEN deeper than that, the song isn’t even in english — It’s in Simlish. If you’re wondering what he hell is ‘Simlish‘ is, it’s the fake language the characters in the Sims use to show they’re talking to each other.
This isn’t a bad move on EA’s part. Considering The Sims is primarily sold to girls and for some reason girls love Katy Perry, the combination ends up being ‘girliffic.’
Now only if EA implemented her DD’s ‘thingies’ she revealed on the Howard Stern Show, than I would have called this perfect…

Peter over at /film found some information about the Sims adaption to the silver screen. Movie Producer John Davis (AVP-Requiem) explained the idea behind the movie:
“The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid of a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right, which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that. But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world. So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world. It’s wish fulfillment, and obviously it turns against them.”
Why does this sound like the story behind ‘Click‘. Okay, it’s completely different, but it does have some ’similar ideas’. Adam Sandler’s Character goes into a ’strange’ part of ‘Bed, Bath and Beyond’, and picks up a universal remote. That remote controls time and his life.
Although, I am impressed they made a story that has some what of an imagination, because they could have instead just used the name for brand recognition purposes. As of now, there has yet to be any announcements for a director or even actors. However, the writer of the film is Brian Lynch who is uncredited for writing Chasing Amy and is currently working on the film for “Puss in Boots.” Yes, the cat from Sherk…

While having a discussion with the Associated Press, Will Wright hinted at the possibility of seeing his god-game, Spore being made for the next-generation consoles. Although, if it does happen it won’t be an exact port of the PC version, much like what happened to the Sims series when it was brought over to the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox a few years back.
“‘Spore’ on almost any platform is going to be different and tied to the unique aspects of that platform.”…”Sitting in front of a console is very different from sitting in front of a PC. Whether you’re using a mouse or a PS3 controller or a Wii wand, that right off the bat is arguing for a somewhat different design.”
Obviously Spore is going to be a huge money maker for both EA and Maxis, and it only would help both companies financially if they were to find a way to bring it over to the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii. We’re sure it’s going to happen eventually, but the question is when… Source: CNN

One of the biggest franchises in video game history is about to get bigger. EA has just announced at GC: 08′ that the Sims 3 will be released in February 20, 2009. The Sims series which sold over 100 Million units worldwide, is set to get even more in depth with EA’s newest installment.
EA explained how the Sims 3 will play by saying “what you do outside your home now matters as much as what you do within.” Meaning, what you do for your job and friends, will matter just as much as what you did in just your home in the previous installments of the game.
No more will you just pay attention to the chores around your house, now you’ll have to work and if you want to get that job promotion, you’ll have to commit even harder then your colleagues in the game. As well as build relationships with friends.
Seems like way to much work for us. :-p

EA and Maxis has confirmed that Spore is officially gone gold. Will Wright’s most ambitious game yet, is about to to hit stores on September 5 here in the States and Asia, and September 7 for those European people. It seems like it’s been forever when Will Wright and friends first announced the game way back in 2004, in Wired magazine. So saying it’s along time coming would be a understatement.
Spore will have a regular edition for $49.99 and a special edition called Spore: Galactic Edition for 79.99. It will include, in addition to the game, a DVD laying out the making of the game, a second DVD called “How to Build a Better Being” produced by National Geographic Channel, and a hardback mini-book named “The Art of Spore.”
So finally in just a few weeks, we’ll be able to make our Penis Monsters roam their own planet.

Oh jeez, Will Wright and EA wants to make a Spore Movie and/or TV show. While speaking with Reuters, he spoke about his ambition to adapt the game onto the silver screen.
With Spore, we’re looking way outside the game space, such as TV, movies, etc. We’re basically planting the seeds to spread Spore out to a much wider group of people than would ever play a computer game,”
I’m not sure how well a movie would work. Most video games that turn into movies like Mortal Kombat or the latest Hitman turn disastrous because they lack a decent story. Games are driven by mostly strong gameplay, and generally speaking the story is created as an after thought. While movies are appealing because it’s 100% story-driven.
However, EA might be able to get away with this idea, While Spore doesn’t have a story-that right there – could work for them. They wouldn’t need any elements from the story because there isn’t one. Meaning the writer for the movie could completely tell what ever he wants to be told, and not have to worry about restrictions because it’ll make the “fans” of the game pissed. Although in the end, I can’t see it working out for us to enjoy. It seems more about EA making money, than creating a good script.
I could maybe see a kids TV show become successful. When you think about the game itself, it’s a simple game, besides the depth it has when creating a creature, it’s a pretty basic scenario. From a lot of children TV shows that I’ve seen as of late, you don’t need a complex story to tell, you need “funny looking characters” with flashing colors.
