Some news is starting to trickle out of Nintendo’s US Media Summit in San Francisco. The company has confirmed dates for two highly-anticipated videogames for their Wii console. And let’s say summer is gonna be a good season for Wii gamers, which is generally unusual for the industry.
The sequel to arguably the best Wii title to date, and perhaps this generation of consoles as a whole, Super Mario Galaxy, is dated for May 23. Super Mario Galaxy 2 was predicted to be a huge holiday title for the Big N when it was first announced at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, but it never saw the light of day — nor mentioned much after the convention.
Another big title which was also first shown at E3 — Metroid: Other M – now officially has a date. The title, which is being co-developed by Team Ninja — makers of Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden — will be in stores on June 27th of this year. The next installment of this particular Metroid game, will experiment with the combination of both first and third-person action sequences, a departure of the recent Metroid games, which was almost all in a first-person prospective.
It’s interesting to see Nintendo release these games before or right after E3, considering not much has been talked about them. With that said, it’s going to be hard for Nintendo to gain E3 hype for both titles. While I don’t see that being to much of a problem for Mario because well…it’s Mario, I do see Metroid having some advertising problems.
When Metroid is released, it pretty much is right after E3 ends, which doesn’t sound like a horrible idea at first; however, it’s risky. The reason is because the title could get lost, with all the other gaming announcements by various companies. And if the game doesn’t impress gamers when it’s showed off, they might forget it even exists when it ships a few weeks later.
I hope Nintendo has something HUGE up their sleeve for the expo because these are two games that would normally be considered Christmas titles. With that said, Nintendo is certainly not forgetting about the ever-so-important holiday season. So I fully expect some major announcements by Nintendo at the famous videogame convention in June.

Since the dawn of inventions, everything has been inspired by something else. It’s just the way nature works and videogames are no exception. All of us have no choice but to be okay with that because that’s the way it’ll always be. However with that said, I’m not okay with people bluntly steal/copy from a videogame and call it their own.
Up top is footage from a game called Duludubi Star and I think the Chinese developer who created it, was a little more than inspired by Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii. The game follows an unimaginative blue dragon, who collects coins on small planets where its gravity is a staple point in the game, which is the exact premise of Super Mario Galaxy. Hell, even the menus are exactly the same — couldn’t they have at least not make it so obvious and change them!?
Yeah, it’s pretty pathetic. Watch that, and click here to see what Nintendo did with Mario two years ago.

“WTF?“
Since the death of Michael Jackson, everyone has been trying to figure out ways to have a “tribute” for the legendary performer. Sure, some people could take it as making a quick buck on someone’s untimely death — but we’re not here to judge… I think. Anyway, the videogame industry hasn’t done to much up till this point, even though it was somewhat known that Jackson was a avid gamer to a degree.
The PEGI, the European version of the ESRB ratings board we have here in the US, has posted what could be a possible leak about an upcoming ‘classic’ headed towards Nintendo’s Virtual Console. According to the site, the 1989 Sega Genesis game — as well as other platforms — Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker is going to be available as a download for the Wii. While the game was far from being good, it was known at the time as having decent graphics and memorable music, which was just “bleeps & bloops” of Jackson songs.
The Genesis version followed Jackson as he tried to save children, whom were kidnapped by the evil “Mr. Big.” In order to save the kids, Jackson used a few ‘fighting’ styles against his enemies, that mostly reassemble some of his dance moves — including the ‘Moonwalk.’ No word when we should expect to see the game, or if it even heads to the stateside.

Warren Spector, the genius behind Deus Ex, is underway developing maybe his most ambitious title to date, Epic Mickey. The Wii exclusive (for now), sounds like one of the more intriguing titles to come out this generation of systems. The platformer follows Disney’s most famous star Mickey Mouse, who found himself trapped inside the studio of Yen Sid, who was a powerful sorcerer in the film Fantasia. Sid created a world of old forgotten Disney characters, by drawing them and could be interacted with a mirror. Mickey quickly tries to escape when Yen Sid has left the room and accidently trips through the mirror, spilling paint thinner inside with him. Mickey somehow gets out of the mirror and returns back to his own world. Unfortunately, he realizes his world has been destroyed because of the paint-thinner and it somehow created a villain named the Phantom Blot. Blot took the power from the original Disney mascot named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, who Sid, apparently drew before Mickey, and he kidnaps the famous mouse. The story later unfolds and we get to see jealous Disney Characters, who most have never even heard of, and try to destroy Mickey because of his fame.
The story sounds fantastic and easily could have been developed as a film, instead of a game. However, the plot came from the mind of Warren Spector and he even has more ideas about the story, and they won’t fit into this one game. When asked by 1up if we would ever see this game made into a franchise, Spector wasn’t opposed to the idea. “I don’t do anything that isn’t extensible,” he said. “And I will certainly feel like that I have not done my job if we can’t make other games in this world with these characters. In my head, I’ve got two more planned. In the business world of reality, those games have not approved, and who knows if we’ll ever see them. I had three games planned for Deus Ex, and you see where that got me.”
I really do hope Disney greenlights the future installments of Epic Mickey. I really can’t think of a time when I was excited for a videogame project and barley have seen anything about it, besides the premise. And if Spector already has two planned in his head, you better believe they’re probably awesome.

Braid is easily one of the best original Xbox Live Arcade games, and maybe the greatest digital distribution game to hit the console market. Come to think of it, it wasn’t just a great XBLA title, but one of the best titles period, in 2008.
The time-travel side-scroller was eventually available for PC owners earlier this year and even Mac gamers got the chance to play it, leaving PlayStation 3 gamers in the dark.
What is the equivalent of the ESRB over in Germany, the USK, has listed Braid coming to the PS3 on its website. This is obviously a far cry from an official confirmation, but there really isn’t a reason for the group to lie, or for that matter make a mistake. Generally speaking, when these games are first revealed on these rating sites, it happens.

If this is the truth, it doesn’t make a mention if it would be released outside of Germany, but the chances are pretty high it will. As soon as we get more of an official word, we’ll bring it to you.

These are rough times. Unemployment is at its highest, people are still losing their jobs and companies are going out of business left and right. The economic meltdown isn’t just happening in America or the world for that matter; it’s affecting the Mushroom Kingdom as well.
We received an exclusive picture of Mario in distress and he’s contemplating ending it all, after reports of Nintendo’s profits dipping.
In all seriousness, I love how the artist, Jude Buffum, captured the platform Mario runs on as nothing more than buildings. Check out the full image after the break. Also, notice how he has no coins either, that’s pretty clever. (more…)

Capcom has confirmed that they plan on pushing back the flying, third-person shooter Dark Void into Q1 2010, which was expected to come out later this year. The action title joins a long list of anticipated games which also have been delayed until next year including: BioShock 2, Red Steel 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction and among others.
Capcom community director Chris Kramer said the delay was made “in order to get the game out of the crowded fall game season.” in order to get the game out of the crowded fall game season.” “The move will be great for the game and for gamers. Less competition in the market (curse you, Halo!), more time for polish,” he added.
I don’t think I have ever seen so many games get delayed a few months before release. Although, I wouldn’t just blame Bungie’s Halo: ODST. I’m sure Activision’s Modern Warfare 2 has a lot to do with this specific delay, as well as the other titles which have been pushed back until next year.

Adding to the Mario theme for E3, Nintendo announced a sequel to the New Super Mario Bros., however, this time it is for the Wii.
The game revolves around multiplayer, which will support up to four-players, which Nintendo cleverly calls “4D Mario.” Although, last time I checked, the forth dimension would mean ‘time itself,’ and not 4-players. Maybe Nintendo meant it was 4-Dumb. Okay, I’m kidding because the game actually looks fun.
The multiplayer is competitive in nature, however, you also need to work to together. Basically, it acts like co-op, until you need to screw someone over for your own personal gain — just like in real life.
‘New Super Mario Bros. Wii‘ is scheduled to come out this fall.
Check out the video up top and after the jump, check out the official description. (more…)

Nintendo has announced a sequel to their critically acclaimed game, Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the Wii. The first thing you’ll notice from the game is Nintendo will be bringing back the green dinosaur, Yoshi. Other than that, the game looks like a rehash of the original Galaxy, which came out in 2007. Although, is that really a bad thing? The first game is easily one of the best titles to be released this generation, on any platform.
However, that does not hide the fact that their is disappointment in the air after the conference. Many people here at the show were letdown by how it looks, because visually — it is the same.
Either way, I’m sure when Nintendo launches the game, it’ll receive great reviews. As of now, there isn’t a set date but it does look like it was far along in development, so I’m guessing later this year.
Watch the trailer above.

Up until 2007, E3 always included advertisements right outside the Los Angeles Convention Center. Unlike the banners that are attached to the the building, these would be actual real-life props. Most of the time, it was army equipment, which was generally sponsored by America’s Army.
So far, the real life soldiers and the armored vehicles have yet to show up, and instead we get to see trash.
Up top is a picture of outside the convention center and is a viral advertisement for Rabbids Go Home. The actual game features the same crazy Rabbids, who first debuted in Rayman: Raving Rabbids.
This time, the nutty mammals discover their home is on the Moon and they are trying to get there. The way they do it is by collecting junk from around the world, and pile it up on each other — until it’s high enough to reach the Moon. Hence the junk on top of one another in the picture.
I guess this will get people talking. Unless of course they don’t take notice; remember, the expo takes place in Los Angeles.
Rabbids Go Home will be coming out for the Wii.

One of the best series to come out this decade is Metroid Prime. Sure, the Metriod games have already proven themselves since they were released in the NES days. However in a weird way, I think of Metroid on the retro system as a separate series, than on the Gamecube and Wii. It probably stems from the fact that the the games are set in a 3D world, and all have the view of a first-person shooter.
If you missed any of the newer titles, have no fear because Nintendo is releasing a pack which features all Metroid Prime games. Dubbed Metroid Prime Trilogy, the bundle will include the two that were released for the Gamecube in 2002 and 2004, as well as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Wii.
Both of the ‘Cube’ Metroids will be redesign to fit a widescreen television and will support 480p. Not only that, they will control exactly like the Wii version, utilizing both the WiiMote and Nunchuck.
The trilogy is confirmed to be in stores on August 24th, and will sell for $49.99. Not a bad deal at all…

Sega’s Mascot first game has found a new home. The original Sonic the Hedgehog is available right for the iPhone and costs $5.99. Because the iPhone does not feature any buttons, Sega put a virtual d-pad and “A” button on the screen and the player simply touches them in order to control Sonic.
So far, the game is getting decent 4/5 star rating in the App-Store. However, the biggest complaint sounds like it could be a larger problem than the star reviews let on. According to several iTune users, the game suffers from extreme slowdown, which in is totally inexcusable in my opinion.
This game is a port of the first Sonic the Hedgehog which came out for the Genesis in 1991. Are you telling me that the developers couldn’t run a near perfect port on the iPhone, which is by far a superior machine? Pathetic.

We all think of Super Mario 64 as a wonderful kid friendly game from our childhood. With the happy sound effects, the cute enemies and Mario talking and laughing, it was just perfect for us as kids. And to this day, the game is fantastic.
Well if you watch the video up top, I promise you it will ruin that great memory you have in your head. LightingWolf3 decided to slow down the sound, and filter the color of the game, to black & white. What you get is quite possibly the creepiest video game ever made.
Again if watch, it will quickly decay your perception of Mario…

Just a quick update about Stephen Fry doing voice work, for a “2nd edition” video game. On his same twitter page, Mr. Fry commented that he completed the voice acting and confirmed the game he was working on was LittleBigPlanet, but for the Sony PSP.
“I’ve come to the end of a lush voice-athon and yes, am empowered to confess that it was for a new PSP version of Little Big Planet.”
Although my dreams are crushed, because I would have loved to see a sequel for the Playstation 3 announced at E3. However, there is great news to come out of this. The PSP version looks like it’s going to have an authentic LBP feel, with original content and not just some rehash title.

If you played the Ratchet & Clank series, than you know about the wacky weapons. The platformer does not feature a standard gun with bullets, but rather arms Ratchet with something like a gun that makes his enemies dance uncontrollably. Insomniac Games, who are team behind the titles, edited a video together, which counted down the top-ten weapons featured in the franchise.
Also, if you head over to the PlayStation Blog, the company has revealed information for new weapons for the newest R&C game, ‘A Crack in Time‘. However, its up to the fans to decided which ones will be featured in the newest game. If you click the link, you can vote for for your favorite weapon which you want to be included in the adventure game.
Results will be revealed during San Diego Comic-Con in July.
