New Super Mario Bros. Wii Box is well… Really Red

supermariored

Kotaku received a copy of the “New Super Mario Bros. Wii” and they decided to capture some pictures of the box art and shared them with their readers. We picked one of the many shots to share with you, so if you want to see the rest, head over to their site.

As you can tell, Nintendo decided to make the whole entire box red, and I’m assuming the company wants to make sure it’ll stand out to the casual gamer, who, has no clue an ‘old-skool’ Mario game is available for the Wii — and trust me, there are a lot of them.

Obviously, this color selection is geared towards the causal gamer, and not us hardcore; however, I don’t mind the color either. Although, is it me or does this remind you of the old porn VHS cases, movie rental stores use to have? Not that I rented them, I was far too young — but I did wish I could’ve back then. Didn’t you!?

I should also mention that I love the art of the pixelated Mario Bros. in the instruction booklet.

Trailer for the Canceled Game ‘The Next Big Thing’

Pandemic’s Brisbane studio closed last January and the company was revealed to be working on The Dark Knight videogame adaption. Apparently, they were also working on a title called “The Next Big Thing” (in the video its named No Limits Racing) for the Wii. But because the studio closed its doors for good, the title was canceled and never picked up by any other publisher.

Thanks to the Internet, the trailer has been released for the defunct once exclusive Wii game and honestly, it looked almost completed. I’m surprise no other publisher decided to pick up the rights, but so far they haven’t.

Watch the trailer above and see what you’ll probably never play.

Killzone 2: Play Against Developers Today

Do you think you’re the balls at Killzone 2? Do you think you could beat anyone and everyone, as long as there is no lag? Then continue reading. Starting on May 5th, which is today, at 10AM PST/1PM EST, you can play against some of the developers of Killzone 2. That’s right, a few guys over at Guerrilla Games are going to battle it out against you, the players. However, you need to follow a few things before you can start to shooting them.

The first thing you need to have downloaded the new map-pack, which is Steel & Titanium. After that, you have to log onto twitter, and go to the PlayStation Blog’s page. From there, Sony will be handing out passwords, and they only can be obtained through twitter.

When that is completed, simply log into Killzone 2 online play, and find the exact room and enter the password. After that, prepared to get your ass handed to you, by people who created your beloved game.

Thankfully, GG developers are going to make their way around the different servers, and play against random people. So if you don’t get a special password, you might still have a chance to show your ’skills’ to the talented developers

Steve Wiebe Will Attempt to Break the Kong Record Live on G4 at E3

If you saw the awesome documentary ‘The King Of Kong: A First Full Of Quarters” a few years ago, than you would know about the heated rivalry of Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe. If you don’t, than shame on you! The film follows real gamer Steve Wiebe, as he tries to beat the high-score world record held by the infamous Billy Mitchell. *Spoiler Alert.* Half way through the movie, Wiebe claims the record live at an arcade. However, hours later Mitchell sends in a video tape that has him playing the classic game, and beating Wiebe’s newly record. Without getting into to much detail, a lot of controversy surrounded Billy Mitchell’s videotape. We recommend that you watch the film, it is easily one of the best that came out in 2007.

Over the last few years, Mitchell and Wiebe would go back and forth of who would hold the record, even after the movie is released. Ultimately, Mitchell would hold the record for quite sometime now. Now, in a press release from G4, Steve Wiebe will once again try to reclaim the world record at this year’s E3. The attempt will also be broadcast live on G4 TV on June 2, 2009, the time will be determined. So, save the date, because this could be fun to watch!

On a side note, did you know Billy Mitchell is as controversial as the abortion issue?

After the jump, read the official press release. (more…)

Sega Reveals Genesis Collection Pack for Xbox and PS3

Sega has finally revealed the heavily rumored Genesis pack that will feature 40 games that were previously released on the old system. The retro game collection will not only include the original games like Sonic, Ecco and Shinobi, but will display them in 720p for anyone that owns an HDTV. Which is fantastic, because anyone who has played an old game on a ‘newer’ TV would know they look like crap.

Sega also announced the game will feature Xbox Achievements and PS3 Trophies — so it’s a must for any hardcore old-skool Sega lovers like myself. However, at this point, a price has yet to confirmed by the company — we just hope it’s not over $40 because if it is, it might not be worth it. We’re actually thinking it should be no more than $30, but we’ll see soon enough.

After the jump, check out the full list of games included with the collection. (more…)

iPhone Game Features Level Editor — Why We Think It’s the Future

Hey LittleBigPlanet and Far Cry 2, you’re not the only ones who can have a level creator included. The the cute little iPhone now has a game that supports a level editor. The game Labyrinth is just like how it sounds, you control a ball and while moving the iPhone around using the accelerometer, you try not to have the ball fall through a hole. It’s pretty much like any old board game of Labyrinth.

The game now has an update, if you connect your account to your computer, the game now gives you the ability to create your own levels on your PC/Mac and then you can play your creation on the phone. It’s just incredible that even phones are starting to have a level editor. Yeah, it’s simple — but it does not mean it’s not innovative for a phone.

Again, we’re a firm believer that in the near future, most games to come out for any system will feature some kind of level editor. Even though it sounds far fetch, we’ll give you an example why it isn’t. Look at online gaming, just 6-7 years ago if we told you that online gaming would become a standard for almost every game that comes out today — you might have laughed at us. But today, if it doesn’t feature some kind of online play, we wonder why. We expect every game to include it. Pretty soon we’ll expect to see every game to give us the ability to create our own worlds. On top of that, with online communities like LittleBigPlanet — it’s better for the developers and the consumer. Developers don’t have to worry about creating DLC nor does the consumer have to wait for it to be developed. Because everyday, there is always something new.

Anyways, check out the video up top.

Hands-On the Time Trial Mode for Mirror’s Edge — Plus New Screens

We were lucky enough to attended an event for EA’s FPS/platformer Mirror’s Edge for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Not only did we get to mingle with the developers of the project, we had a chance to check out the time trial portion — which will be made available through a demo if you pre-order it next month.

If you haven’t read much into DICE’s next ambitious project, then let’s get you up to speed. The story follows a female lead named ‘Faith,’ and in the not so decent future her government has controlled its people from thinking on its own — by brainwashing them. Not in a literal sense, but putting fear in the population and telling them the government is their to protect them from outside evil. It’s obvious the story is heavily influenced by the book “1984,” and maybe even taken from current events from around the world. (more…)

New Xbox 360 Dashboard Update on October 28?

Seattlepi had a interesting theory regarding the new Dashboard update for the Xbox 360 and when it could be available. For those who don’t know, the first game to introduce Microsoft’s Avatars is the movie quiz game ‘Scene It? Box Office Smash.’ Considering the game comes out on October 28, 2008 [According to IGN], there is a chance we could have an update around the same time. Also for people who don’t have access to Xbox Live, the game could be a way to load the Dashboard without the internet.

You would figure whenever ‘Scene It?‘ is released, that’s when the update will happen. The question is, could the game be ‘delayed?‘ It very well could be, but as of now, October 28 looks to be a reasonable time for the update to be available to the public.
