Video: Developer’s Update for the PS3 Motion Controller

While I’m sure PlayStation 3 owners were looking forward to see some more information on the motion controller at Gamescom, Sony had a different plan. That doesn’t mean the company didn’t talk about it, but they did showoff a quick video, which they called a “developer’s update.” Nothing really surprising was included with the video, but Sony definitely took a jab at both Microsoft and Nintendo.

Thankfully, it seems like Sony is going to have a big unveiling of the controller when the Tokyo Game Show begins. No word yet on what the company expects to do nor if it’ll be playable on the showfloor. I guess we’ll know soon enough because the Tokyo Game shows kicks off on September 24th.

Check out the “developer’s update” video up top.

Teaser for a New Castlevania Game for PS3 and Xbox 360 — Why We Hope It’s NOT 3D

Konami has just released a trailer for their next Castlevania game on both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Sadly, at this point very little is known about the next game of the series because the trailer doesn’t reveal to much. The only thing we know is a Dracula slayer is involved in the game (duh)…and he is holding a flaming sword.

Heck, because the trailer isn’t even gameplay but the annoying pre-rendered crap, we’re not even sure if it is 2D or 3D. Judging by the video and the point Konami is trying to get across — it’s a safe bet it’s going to be 3D. Which sucks because all of the 3D Castlevania games were unfortunately ‘meh.

If only Konami knew that the Castlevania series just doesn’t work in a 3D world. Sure, games like ‘Devil May Cry‘ and ‘God of War‘ work great in 3D, but Castlevania is a completely different genre, we understand it has its action — but that’s hardly the reason why people consider the games great. The game is mostly about exploring while ‘killing hellish’ enemies on the way. And sorry to say this, but exploring in a 3D world is generally frustrating. It’s a lot harder to get lost in a 2D side-scroller when compared to a 3D game — where you can go in every which way and get disoriented because of it.

Unless of course the game is Metroid

Halo Recon Is Going To Be Less Than 8 Hours Long?

While having an interview with Eurogamer, Bungie’s Brian Jarrard confirmed you are not required to own Halo 3 to play ‘Halo Recon‘. During the same interview he stressed the game will not be a download and will be sold in a Box. Although, the one thing that does concern us was when he was asked how long the campaign would be, when compared to Halo 3:

“It’s hard to put a number on it. It’s going to represent hours of new campaign gameplay, but it’s not a full, entire game like Halo 3. I think we have a lot of value on the disc.”

If anyone played through Halo 3, than you would know the game was short. In fact, I beat the single-player all the way through on normal the first time and it took me a little under 8 hours to do so. While doing quick research, most people looked like they beat the game in the same amount of time. I’ve even heard some people finishing it in 6 hours.

I want to stress that I love Halo franchise, and I even loved Halo 3. But the biggest complaint I had with the game was how damn short it was. I bet if you asked people what they hated about the game — most would agree with me. And while I completely understand ‘Recon‘ isn’t the forth installment in the series — but more of a side story, I just wish it would be longer…or at least as long as Halo 3.

I just hope Bungie and Microsoft doesn’t rip us off and make it a $60 game. Hell, It better not be more than $30!

The Flood Officially in Halo Wars

Just like we already figured after the last Halo Wars cinematic video we posted a few days ago, the infamous Flood will be included in the upcoming RTS game for the Xbox 360. As of now we only know their in the game, but we have no clue if there going to be a ’selectable race.’

Of course, no Halo game would be complete without the annoying mutated aliens/people and like we said, the trailer already somewhat hinted at the possibility of the Flood running rampant in the game.

Solid Snake and Sephiroth Skins in LittleBigPlanet

Just like we mentioned a few days ago, 3rd-party companies are lining up their properties in Sony’s next blockbuster, LittleBigPlanet. Although, it’s not Disney — it’s defiantly not characters owned by Sony either.

Konami and Square-Enix are jumping on the bandwagon by releasing skins for Solid Snake from Metal Gear and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. The question is, we know there is going to be a crap load more characters skins available in the game through a downloaded, but what else does the game have in store for us?

New Xbox Experience Available on November 19 for Download

The highly anticipated update for the Xbox 360’s dashboard is about to finally launch globally on November 19 — Microsoft announced at their Tokyo Game Show press briefing. The update will include the Avatars that seem oddly similar to the Mii’s offered on the Wii System. The concept is the same as the Nintendo’s idea when it debuted back in 2006 — create a virtual person in the Xbox menu, than at one point you’ll be able to transport them into certain games that take advantage of the new Avatars. The first game to adapt to the new update will be the movie trivia game, ‘Scene it?: Box Office Smash.

The biggest feature included in the update has to be the ability to watch Netflix movies through Xbox Live. Not only can you just watch a movie in your queue, but you can view the movie with a friend on another Xbox using their online service. You can even put on the headset and talk to him/her while the movie is playing. And the best part of the Netflix support, it’s free!  All you need is a Xbox Live subscription and a Netflix account and you can watch what ever movies are available through Netflix’s streaming service, which is about 12,000 right now. But it could grow by November 19.

Tekken 6 is Coming to the Xbox 360 and PS3

Huge news regrading the Xbox 360 (although not surprising) is Namco-Bandi confirming Sony’s ultra exclusive Tekken series is finally coming to the Xbox 360, with its sixth installment. This sent shock-waves throughout Japan as well as Sony fanboys everywhere. Japanese gamers as well as Sony consumers are used to playing Tekken on a Sony console. That of course all changed today when Tekken 6 was announced on the Xbox 360.

Don’t worry PS3 owners, you’ll be getting the same game when it debuts next year. Even though this is the first time we’ll be seeing the fighter on something other than a Sony system, it isn’t really a surprise for us here at /gamer. The latest trend in the gaming industry as of late — is to see games we’re all used to seeing on a PlayStation being ported over to an Xbox 360.

It makes perfect sense too. When a company is making a game, the goal isn’t to appease a fanboy, but to make money. These days if Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft chooses not to offer a publisher a crap load of cash, than almost every game to come out will in fact be multiplatform. We believe the era of exclusive games is coming to an end. And it’s happening very quickly…

Square-Enix Working on a Mind-Control Game

Square-Enix is teaming up with NeuroSky, a company who specializes in mind-control. Both companies will offer a game demo that will highlight the Tokyo Game Show. The game will work with a Windows based PC and take advantage of NeuroSky headset called the MindSky. The device fits over your head and monitors brainwaves. Although, they don’t go into any detail about how in depth it reads those waves, it was confirmed it’ll read the level of relaxation and concentration.

The demo will be available to play at the NeuroSky’s booth at TGS.

Headsets similar have been unveiled through other companies, but this is the first time a major gaming studio is working with one.

Could we see other developers take advantage of a mind-control headset? Would someone like Nintendo be interested?

Square Enix Lineup for Tokyo Game Show

Thanks to Kotaku translating the Square Enix website, they have uncovered what games will be at this year’s Tokyo Game Show in October. Some of the bigger news is that Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX won’t have demo’s on the show floor.

Clearly missing is the next installment of Kingdom Hearts for the PS3. Obviously, when they first announce the game, it won’t be on their site, but instead during some press briefing.

After the jump, check out the list. (more…)

Resident Evil 5 to Change Control, Will Now Feel More Like Gears of War

Resident Evil 5 was hands down one of the best games at this year’s E3. But the game wasn’t free from some complaints. The biggest issue that most people agreed upon including myself, was the control felt and looked to similar to the previous game for the Gamecube and PS2. Apparently, Capcom heard about negative feedback and decided to do something about it. According to Kotaku, the producer of the game, Hun Takeuchi briefly hinted about a new control scheme at the Microsoft press conference in Japan:

“So don’t be surprised if at the Tokyo Game Show, the controls are different… I’m not confirming or denying anything, but we like to surprise people.”

After the conference Kotaku was able to get a little more detail about what he meant when he said ‘different’ controls, and he referred to it being similar to Gears of War. What does he mean by that? Well, we’re not too sure, but we pray that we could see some kind of cover system implemented. That could defiantly make a game like Resident Evil much more intense. We’ll just have to wait until TGS, which starts October 9-12.

Alan Wake to Make an Apperance at the TGS in October?

One of the biggest games the internet was hoping to see at E3-but missing, was Alan Wake for the Xbox 360 and Windows Vista. But hopefully maybe could make an appearance at the Tokyo Game Show in October – according to a Microsoft owned contest.

The website announced if you just watched a Windows Vista demo, you’ll have the opportunity to be entered in a drawing, and if you win, you’ll be taking a trip to Finland and be “digitally” made into Alan Wake. After that, you’ll be flown to Japan and you’ll be able to see yourself in Remedy’s new game, in either playable form or a trailer at the TGS

Kataku noticed, that the contest was dating back as far as March of last year. Which scares me a tad, is it going to happen or or did it happen? Like many-when I heard about this game, I couldn’t wait to see more. Unfortunately, I’ve become disappointed because nothing has ever appeared about the game since.

Hopefully that will change in Japan in October, but I’m not betting the house either.

Alan Wake is schedule to appear in stores June of 2031…Well maybe not, but it sure feels like it will.
