We have the official box art of what the God of War Collection for PS3 will look like, thanks to kotaku. While I’ve made it well known that I find the series to be one of the best to come out in the last ten or so years, I find the box a tad…underwhelming. Sure, I understand Sony is trying to allow the customer to understand that this collection features both GoW I & II, but just using the original box art seems rather lazy. God of War is not only this epic videogame, but some of the concept art is the most beautiful I’ve seen in the business. I just would have preferred some gorgeous art that would have captured the feel of both titles. But instead when I look at it, it reminds me of some old budget PC title I would have fun on some rack near the cash register in CompUSA in the late 90s.
Oh well, I just hope the “remastered” games have a little more time spent in the development stages when compared to whomever designed the box.

DJ Hero isn’t getting the best response by gamers around the world, but I’m excited for it. Today, the company has just released the official box art for the game and I’m not sure what people will think about it. I know girls are more into gaming then ever before, but seriously Activision, this box is a tad too ‘girly,’ for my taste.
I’m not too sure how familiar you guys are with ‘Tokidoki,’ but it’s “Lifestyle brand” company, which is best known for making bags… for girls. The art style, namely the colors for the DJ Hero reminds me of Tokidoki.
Maybe Activision believes DJ Hero will sell better if they advertise it for women, as opposed to men. When the first trailer hit the web last month, it distinctively showed a woman ‘Djing’ in the game. While the video was playing, the song “Hollaback Girl” was remixed with other songs, but the trailer clearly wanted the audience watching the video to hear Gwen Stefani. I don’t think most hardcore male gamers listen to that particular song.
I could certainly be stretching a connection between DJ Hero and Women, but the more I see about the rhythm game, the more I believe my own theory.

Here is the first picture, thanks to tinycartridge, of the box art for the upcoming black Wii, which is slated for Japan on August 1st. I’m not gonna lie, I would gladly trade my white console for this sleek looking one.
The new color screams, “So what if I play Wii Music, I still kick ass.” Sadly, Nintendo has yet to give the green light for production of the new color in the US or abroad. Hopefully they release it and soon because my white Wii is collecting a lot of dust, and with the black console — you wouldn’t be able to see it.

Chittagong on flickr remade box art of today’s hit games, and dreamt how they would look if they were originally released on the NES. When other people do this, they like to completely redo everything, from the graphics to actual art. However, Chittagong decided to use todays graphics, but put them into the retro degraded boxes. Even if some of you think it could be lazy, I find them to be pretty cool.

EA has released the final box art for Brütal Legend, and I love how it looks like a cheesy 80’s movie poster. It’s also cool that EA recognizes how great Tim Schafer’s is plastering his name above the title. Although, do regular people even no who the heck Schafer is outside the gaming industry? It’s just another bad marketing idea by EA because they probably should have went with something like ‘Jack Black in Brütal Legend.’
Last time I checked, Jack Black, who stars in the game, is a famous actor and even musicians, that alone maybe could have sold a few more copies if his name was on the front cover. Why they choose Scafer instead of Black is a decision I’ll never understand.

Today we get the insight for the first time on what to expect from The Beatles: Rock Band limited edition version. Now, Harmonix, MTV and EA have released what the box art is actually going to look like.
Obviously, because of the band and hype, it was essential to make the cover look like a Beatles album and keep it classy at the same time. Not only are they going after the rhythm fans, but they also trying to reach out to just Beatles fans, who normally wouldn’t play a video game. I think they did just that, though, why are they running away?

Just a quick note that Activision decided to change the name of their upcoming Guitar Hero game. Instead of calling Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits, the publisher is now calling the rhythm title Guitar Hero: Smash Hits. Unfortunately, even though we pleaded with Activision to call it Guitar Hero: Milking the Franchise, they just didn’t seem to take our recommendation seriously.
Guitar Hero: Smash Hits is scheduled to be on store shelves this June for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 2.

Twitter member fourzerotwo or Robert Bowling, works over at Infinity Ward, you know, the company that is making the upcoming Modern Warfare 2. Well he just posted a picture on twitpic of a meeting he just got out of:
Just wrapped a packaging design meeting for Modern Warfare 2. So many cool unique ways to play around with box art http://twitpic.com/2sm0k

Last month, we posted graffiti by an artiest who goes by the name AltrdBst. The picture that he created on a wall was called “JFK: The Game,” which depicted the JFK Assassination but with NES style graphics. Was it classy? No! But it was definitely original nonetheless. If you didn’t catch the art, click here.
AltrdBst has done some more artwork around New York City. This time he imagined what ‘Mike Tyson’s Punchout 2‘ would look like for the NES, if it were released today. As you can see from the picture above, Tyson includes his ‘ink’ that takes up half of his face.
I also dig the caption: “Ear Bitting Fun!”

Warner Bros. Interactive has sent out the box art for the newest Batman game Arkham Asylum. Not much is revealed on the cover besides a few things. First, the ESRB has officially rated the game Teen. Other than that, the only other tidbit we can get out of the box is whatever brawls Batman gets himself into inside the infamous asylum, is going to give him a pounding. If you check out the Dark Knight’s outfit, his cape has holes and his armor has rips (legs), which also reveals blood.
On a side note, does this Batman look oddly similar to the horrible George Clooney version?

EA has unveiled the box art for the upcoming boxing game Fight Night Round 4 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Since the game was announced many months ago, EA was bragging about how the game will include greats like “Iron” Mike Tyson and the legendary champion Muhammad Ali. The first teaser trailer EA showed off even featured the two boxers going head to head.
Naturally, EA decided to announce the ex-athletes will grace the cover of their new boxing game (above). Tyson talked a little bit about sharing the cover with one of his idols:
I’m honored to be on the cover of Fight Night Round 4 with Ali. He was a special champ, and I have the highest respect for him as a person and a fighter. People always ask me if I think I would have beaten Ali if I had the chance to fight him when we were both in our prime. Now you can figure it out for yourselves. Fight Night puts you right in that ring and gives you the gloves to settle the score.”
It should also be mentioned that a demo has been confirmed. If you want early access to it, you have to head down to your local GameStop and pre-order it.
Fight Night Round 4 is due out this summer.

Mexican video game journalist Lorenzo Grajales, just received his review copy of Nintendo’s DSi. So what was the first thing he did? Obviously snapped a few pictures of the outside and inside of the box the handheld ships with and threw it online.
A few things that we noticed outside the box were the icons on the front. It seems Nintendo likes Sony’s XMB approach because they look a lot like that.

Can a manual get any bigger for such a tiny device? Although, I doubt the whole thing is in english, Nintendo, like other companies, tend to put multiple languages in their operation manual.

Could this be the final box art for Guitar Hero: Metallica? Well, according to Gamestop it is. If you head over to the site, you notice that they have the cover for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360. Oddly, they haven’t included the Wii version — but it’s safe to assume that will look the same.
In a weird way, I hope this isn’t the final box for the game — it looks almost fake. Seriously, we have been given fan made box art through email and many of them are considerably better and more marketable than this.

/film received the movie poster for Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. As /film mentions, the poster looks like complete ass. When Peter Sciretta first received the image yesterday, he was not even sure if the poster was fan made or the actual design for the movie. After doing a little research, he believes it’s legit. Anytime a site receives info about marketing plans and they are not sure if it’s real or not — that is generally NOT a good thing.
Oddly enough, a few days ago we got word that Capcom about the box art to Street Fighter IV changing. Although it’s not exactly like the movie poster; Ken and Ryu are in a pose similar to the movie poster. Was that on purpose!?

Back to the poster — it’s so pathetic looking, Peter actually went lengths to try to improve it — did he succeed? Sadly, we think so! Head over there now to check it out.

Capcom has issued a press release regrading their fifth installment for Resident Evil. In the document, the publisher unveiled what the box art will look like for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The cover is sticking with the logo we’ve been accustomed to for Resident Evil 5 for some time now. And they really decided to show off Chris Redfield’s biceps and his addiction to roids.
Not only has the game been labeled racist, but it looks like Capcom is also for pro-steroid use (of course we’re joking).
