Spector: It’s Up To Disney for Epic Mickey to be on PS3/Xbox
As of now, we know the secret game developed by Warren Spector (Deus-Ex) Epic Mickey, is a Wii exclusive, possibly leaving out millions of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners who want to also experience the title. However, it’s not set in stone that it’ll just be on the Wii and “is a decision that other people in the Disney organization are going to make,” Spector told CVG. “Right now we’re a Wii game and I’m happy to be able to focus,” he added.
His reasoning why he enjoys developing the anticipated title on the underpowered Wii is because he doesn’t have to solely focus on making the title gorgeous, and forces him and his team on making the gameplay a top priority. “It’s interesting – it’s kind of fun to be able to focus on gameplay and not have to worry about modern shader stuff. That’s got its place but you know what? If I never make another game that’s trying to be the hyper-realistic, look like everybody else in the world… I’m OK with that. I don’t need to do that anymore. I’m really enjoying working on a platform where gameplay is ‘it’,” he said.
I understand exactly where he is coming from and I do respect that. But there is part of me that wishes we would see this Disney title programed on one of the ‘more’ powerful systems. Disney has based their whole philosophy in film making on not only having a magical story, but also including beautiful visuals. From the classics like Snow White to Pixar’s UP!, the company’s movies are a work of art to the eye alone. By having Epic Mickey a Wii-only title, I think it just doesn’t give the title justice like it would on the PS3, Xbox 360 and/or PC. I’m not saying the game is going to be bad nor look awful; I personally would have rather seen the title developed on a more powerful system.
