New Trailer for Assassin’s Creed II

Ubisoft has released another trailer for Assassin’s Creed II, which is being released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The clip repeatedly shows the main character of the game, Ezio, and shows off some of the battles he must face while the stories unfold. One thing that is catching my eye about the game is how beautiful the sword fighting animations are.

While you watch it, notice how the trailer slows down to reveal how deep the fighting engine is going to be. Generally speaking about an ‘adventure’ game, anytime you slow down anything to watch the mechanics of fighting, it looks rather unrealistic. The imperfections are glaring when everything is in slow-motion. But not so much with Assassin’s Creed II. Each duel between Ezio and his opponent is smooth and seems extremely epic.

The only thing I question about the trailer, is the music choice. While I understand Ubisoft is trying to convince players that Ezio is a badass, I don’t think they need to use the song “Genesis” by Justice, to prove this. The track just doesn’t fit with a title like Assassin’s Creed II, where the story is primarily being told in the 15th century. If I remember correctly from high school history, electronic music wasn’t around yet.

  1. You may also want to remember that 1486 is the late 15th century, not the 12th.

  2. Ha,

Thanks Spence, I was somehow thinking of the first AC. Again, thanks for the correction.

  3. I feel that the music was perfect for this trailer. We would be expecting something “15th century” for the music, and it’s the unexpectedness that made this trailer so good. I felt the same way with the original Gears of War commercial with Mad World playing in the background. It’s a genre of music that wouldn’t normally work with the genre of game, but it fit perfectly.

  4. Oh look Assassin’s Creed 2, so he has 2 hidden blades! WE ARE GENIUSES!

  5. Agreed Jon this song sucks for the trailer, the first one had a cool trailer theme, this one needed to be more periodic.
Actually I just listened to the Zelda theme guy and he seems more suited than the song Ubisoft chose!

  6. oh well, justice kicks ass. the music sold me

  7. Umm…do you not recall that the original Aassassin’s Creed trailer used “Lonely Soul’s” by Unkle. I don’t think anyone wants to watch these trailers with period music in them as it’s not really a match for the fact that this is a video game.
