Developers of Punch-Out!! Want to Make a Sequel

While having a discussion with the Official Nintendo Magazine, Ken Yeeloy, producer of the new Punch-Out!! for the Wii, talked about how he would like to continue the series with a sequel. “I would love to make a sequel. I think with this first product, we wanted to make sure there was a definite, undeniable connection to the original,” Yeeloy said. “The sequel would be our opportunity to evolve the franchise further and add some cool, new things.”

Now, I would be all up for a brand new Punch-Out!!, but my major concern would if the developers made it to much the same. Besides the the obviously graphical upgrade and the added motion controls, this new version didn’t change too much when compared to the original NES game. Thankfully, the minds behind the first game already figured what they could change to make the sequel fresh.

Cooperative, competitive multiplayer support or create-a-boss mode would be places to start but we’d need to come up with a new ‘hook’ like the motion controllers gave us in this iteration,” said Bryce Holliday, who also worked on the Wii version.

I do dig the idea of creating a boss. Not only does making his appearance should like fun to do, but also programming how he fights should definitely be part of it. Imagine having your friends figure out his patterns that you made; that just sounds entertaining to me. I also would like to see maybe MotionPlus controls added, as well as players going on the Wii Fit Balance Boards to dodges opponents punches.

And oh, they would also have to throw in some online multiplayer component, as well.

If they can integrate things like that — I would totally buy this next sequel to the famous boxing series.
