Uncharted 2 Does NOT Require a Mandatory Install
When I bought the PlayStation 3 back in 2006, I was told by Sony that I was purchasing the greatest console on earth. At the time, I already loved my Xbox 360, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a system that was supposedly better. Almost three years have past, so is it best? I’m not to sure about that, but I do love it anyway. However, there are some annoyances that really piss me off about the PS3.
One thing I find just BS is having to install a videogame in order to play it. Wasn’t one of the many benefits about playing on a console rather than a PC, is having the ability to play right off the disc? I understand not every game does it, but there are enough to severely fill up my ever-so-precious hard-drive space. When I look at my Xbox 360, I don’t see this crappy install thing happening, unless of course I CHOOSE to do so. Even when a third party develops a game for both systems, the Xbox 360 version can play right off the disc, while sometimes PS3 owners have to wait for five minutes until the system decides it’s done. I know it’s only five minutes or so, but seriously…
Now that my rant is done, the talented team over at Naughty Dog has confirmed that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will NOT have a mandatory install. This comes as a surprise because some early box art suggested that it would require a 1.7 GB installation. Thankfully it will not. Co-President of the studio Christophe Balestra confirmed that it won’t, thanks to his Twitter account, “Uncharted 2 does not require any install,” he wrote.
Thank you Naughty Dog! Now can you teach other companies how to accomplish this?

Seriously, you can’t understand why some games have to do that? You would have horribly long loadingtimes for some games if you didn’t install. Have in mind that the ps3 uses Bluray not DVD. A bluraydisc has more room, but blurayreaders are not very quick.

Actually, there are ways around not to include the the mandatory install. It really comes down to the developers talent and the amount of time they have to program the game.
