Trailer for DSi’s ‘Augmented Reality’ Game GhostWire
A new type of genre I think has the potential to be huge is “augmented reality.” If you don’t have an understanding of what it is; it’s pretty simple. It is when a game combines both real world objects, and mixes it with graphics. The real-world images would be from a actual camera you are controlling, and while viewing it — interactive images would appear on the screen.
With both the iPhone and DSi including cameras with the device; I see many companies, especially independent ones, take advantage of this new wave of gaming. The developer ‘A Different Game‘ is already creating a augmented reality title, which is called Ghostwire and is coming out for DSiWare. Up top is the trailer for the game.
The player uses the DSi’s cameras and looks at the screen while he/she walks around the real-world. They will be confronted with ghosts, and will be able to connected with them by touching the screen. How deep the interaction is not known yet.
One of the cooler features I notice is how it uses both cameras. Not only do you look in front of you, but the front cam will show your face on the screen and every now and them — a ghost will be behind you. If done correctly, it could definitely scare a few people.
