Sony Buys Rights to The Ghostbusters: Video Game
Update: As of now, the timed exclusive is for the European market only.
The Ghostbusters: Video Game drama continues. Sony Computer Entertainment has snagged the rights to publish the game based off the popular 80’s film, which Atari owned the rights previously. According to a press released that was issued a little earlier, as of now, the Ghostbusters game is an exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. And it will be shipped along with the 25 anniversary Blu-Ray disc, which is on June 16, 2009.
The breaking news comes one month before the title was going to be released on a wide variety of consoles, which included the Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PC. However, many experts are expecting to see the action game eventually, and be available at a later date, it might even be ship in late 2009. By the sounds of it, when Ghostbusters is accessible to other consoles, it will most likely be published by Atari and not Sony. So in essence, this is nothing more than a timed exclusive.
I just hope the owners of the other systems get the chance to pick up Ghostbusters, especially for the Wii. Terminal Reality is developing the game for the 360, PS3 and PC. While Red Fly Studios have taken the duties for the Wii. What Red Fly has done with the game, is simply awesome. And to be honest, in a weird way I was looking forward to trying it for Nintendo’s white console, even more so than the other two.
It should also be noted that the Ghostbusters film was distributed Columbia Pictures, which is now owned by Sony’s movie division. Coincidence? Probably not…

Bullshit. I cannot believe we are subject to this mass cruelty. Just when we were mere weeks away, Sony pulls something like this. Simply stunning.
