Madden 10 Screens for the Wii
Okay, I’m confused. EA has released some shots for the Wii’s version of Madden 10 and I’m not sure if I like the new look. In previous years, EA would just use the graphics/engine from the PS2 and Xbox version and slap on some Wiimote controls. The game wasn’t bad or anything, it just felt outdated — especially when compared to the 360 and PS3.
EA Sports has decided to completely overhaul the look and feel of this year’s football game. Graphically, when I glance at these new screenshots, it reminds me of a cross between NFL Blitz and Nickelodeon. Come to think of it, I do dig the style and I’m happy EA figured out that what they were doing in the past was getting very old.
I’m guessing they chose the new ‘Nickelodeon’ route for a number of reasons. First, by making it a tad cartoony and less realistic, the game can visually hide the fact that the Wii just can’t bust out the same type of graphics. Let’s face it, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are far superior machines for realism.
However, I doubt that is the only reason for the change. Remember, the Wii does extremely well in the casual market. Hell, that’s the main reason why it has sold the number of systems worldwide. Because of that, Madden, like most realistic sports games, don’t do very good on Nintendo’s new system. By changing the look, it appeals to a broader base — and looks more like a family title, rather than a sports title.
Also, in a weird way — I kind of want to try it now. Where in years past — I would have just skipped it.
After the jump, check out the rest of the screens.
