EA Sports: 2009 Games Have Been Played Online 500,000,000 Times
Over a half of billion sports games published by EA have been played online since the 2009 games have been in the stores, which the first was released in June of 2008. If you were to mathematically calculate on average how many games are played online each day, it would equal out to about 2.2 million. Which is about about the population of Houston, TX.
The two-top games played are Madden 09 and FIFA 09, while six other games are played online. “The massive migration to online gaming has transformed the video game landscape, and this week’s 500 millionth online EA Sports game highlights the radical shift that we’ve helped pioneer in the industry,” said EA Sports president Peter Moore. “Online gameplay allows real-time competitions with fans from around the world who speak the global language of sports,” he added.
It’s pretty amazing for me personally to see how far online play has come — especially sport games. I remember hooking up my Sega Dreamcast to the Internet using a 56k connection and noticeably playing NFK 2K1. Knowing where we are now in just under 10 years, fascinates me and I wonder where we’ll be in another 10 years.
