Pirates of the Caribbean Director, Directing the BioShock Movie
Variety is reporting that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski, is ditching the forth installment of the franchise and will take control of the movie adaption of BioShock. Verbinski told producer Jerry Bruckheimer, that he was no longer interested directing the franchise, which domestically has grossed over a billion dollars to date. According to /film, Walt Disney expects Pirates to start production in 2010, while Johnny Depp has already signed on to the project.
“I had a fantastic time bringing ‘Pirates’ to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team,” Verbinski said. “I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.”
Screenwriter John Logan has chalked up the script, and he is best known for creating the stories for; The Last Samurai, Gladiator and Sweeney Todd. The combination of Gore Verbinski directing the film and Logan writing it, means we could actually see for the first time ever, a video game-movie being good. Not only that, the narrative of BioShock could be the best in video game history and translate well into a film.
