Gamestop Earn $8.8 Billion in 2008, Expects to Grow 10% in 2009

According to the Gamestop, the company made about $8.8 billion in sales in 2008. Yes, this is not a misprint — $8.8 billion! These numbers are actually up from 2007, were they reported making an estimated $7.1 billion last year.

Not only did the retail giant make over a billion dollars more than 2007, the company believes they will increase their growth even more next year. Gamestop is predicting in 2009, the company will grow approximately 10% more. How on earth are they going to accomplish this, you might ask? By opening even more stores worldwide. This year alone, Gamestop expects to open about 400 new stores — ranging from the US to Europe.

If these numbers end up holding true, somehow Gamestop is clearly doing well — where most companies are slashing jobs left and right. Maybe every single corporation should hire annoying 16 year olds, and then the economic crisis would end, am I right?

  1. Well, people are stupid enough to buy games from Gamestop eventhough they are the most expensive, so ofcourse they make a lot of money.

  2. At least we are in the right industry!
