According to the website VGChartz, Wii Sports is the best selling video game of all time. The site is proclaiming that the sports title has surpassed another Nintendo game, Super Mario Bros. for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. While doing some research, VGChartz concluded that Wii Sports has topped the 40.24 million copies sold, exceeding Mario in sales.

If these numbers end up holding true, what an achievement this is for Nintendo. Sure, people can try to argue that these numbers are only because of the game being packed with every Wii system sold (excluding Japan and South Korea), but we have news for you — so was Mario. When the NES debuted, one way Nintendo attracted people to purchase the console was to include Super Mario Bros. So, those numbers are also kind of deceiving. However, I’m sure if we were to include the various ‘remakes’ of SMB — it would still be king…for now.
