Confirmed: Will Wright is Working on a New Project

The man who could arguably be the greatest mind in video games Will Wright; confirmed at the Video Game Awards that he is already underway developing a brand new game. However, he won’t exactly indulge on his plans for the new project:

“I’m working on a big new project that I’m very excited about, but I don’t want to talk about it yet because if it takes three years to come out I don’t want people saying ‘Wow, he’s been talking about that for a loooong time.’”

It’s not like we’re surprised that he’s working on something, it’s just good to hear and a confirmation that he is. We just wonder what it could be. I wonder if it’ll be a god game? ;)

Anyways, I know some people were disappointed with Spore, but I honestly think that has a lot to do with him speaking about that particular game for over five years. Because he put so much hype into the game — it just didn’t live up to the expectations. However, the game was great.

That said, I’m sure he understood this and learned his listen and will just shut up.

Although, I wouldn’t mind at least a small hint!

  1. Remember that dude from “The Girl Next Door”? The one who wore the glasses? I swear the guy in the picture could be his father!

  2. So, he’s working on something, that’s OK. I wouldn’t want someone with such nice ideas to get off his work at all. BUT, despite all his good ideas, the execution just FAILS. Spore has much hype indeed, but even without all that hype, the game is just not good. It has interesting things, and the creators are fun, but the game itself is boring, repetitive and lacks complexity and depth in all its phases. I had much more fun with the creature creator than with the full game.

I felt not only disappointed, but cheated.

I sincerely hope Mr. Wright will STFU until his next game is about to be released.
