Rock Revolution Sells Only 3,000 Units Combined — Wii Moves Only 2 Copies?
Can this be for real? According to Gamespot and NPD, Konami’s rhythm game Rock Revolution sold poorly. Again, if this is real — poorly would actually be good news for the gaming publisher.
The NPD Group reported — get this, Rock Revolution sold less 3,000 copies of the game for the month of October. Because of the numbers being so ridicules low, I have my doubts about the legitimacy.
The group said the Xbox 360 version sold 1,442, 816 for the PlayStation 3, 666 for the DS and only two freaking copies for the Wii.
I’m 100% sure if /gamer went into selling games, but instead of getting an actual game in the case, the customer would receive poop — we would still sell more than two copies on the Wii.
If the numbers end up being correct, Rock Revolution I guess would be considered a bomb…

The amazing thing is that the Wii version doesn’t release until next week!

With all the hype for GH:WT, I had no desire to buy this and I’m sure there’s many more who’d agree. But I haven’t even seen the game in a store yet. Maybe DonWii is right and “2″ is a reserve number. Don’t know what else to think. I’m gonna go to their website and check it out now.

If it is true that only two copies of Rock Revolution sold for the Wii I would not be surprised after reading the Wikipedia article.
“On the Wii, instead of the specialized controllers players use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk for “an air-drum and air-guitar experience” similar to Ultimate Band. The game will be simplified for the Wii control scheme, and Wii guitar and drum controllers will not be compatible.” – Wikipedia
I wouldn’t want to buy it after learning that. Also, while there are some pretty good songs available, (Blitzkrieg Bop, Chop Suey!, Falling Away from Me, Highway Star, etc) Guitar Hero and Rock Band already have very similar songs, including some that are exactly the same. Rock Revolution simply doesn’t have anything unique to offer, it doesn’t improve on anything the GH and RB hava already done better (in many cases it is worse), and even its choice in muscians clearly rides the coat tails of GH and RB (easily 90% of the artists have already been featured on GH, RB, or both). When taking all of this into consideration it is very easy to see why Rock Revolution has not and will not do well.
