Times 50 Best Inventions of the Year: Spore Listed at #20
Time has an article that lists the ‘Top-50 Inventions of 2008.’ What might come to a surprise to some — is Will Wright’s ‘Spore‘ was listed as #20. The game edged out other inventions such as; Bionic Contacts, an Invisibility Cloak and Barack Obama. The game was picked because of its mind-boggling concept of evolution, that should be confusing but somehow Wright made it into a ’simple’ video game.
“It’s blasphemy, brilliance or both to take the entire evolution of a species — from a single-celled animalcule in a drop of water to a space-faring, galaxy-exploring sentient being — and turn it into a video game. But that’s exactly what Will Wright has done.”

Spore was a one time sensation, something ramped up by EA to increase game sales. But when I got the game, I thought it was a horrible game to play, despite the idea being really cool. I’m kind of surprised that it so hight ranked.
