Could BioShock 2 Take Place on Dry Land?
A better quality teaser trailer has made its way online for BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams. After viewing it again, we might have uncovered somethings we missed after we first watched it.
First, while watching the HD version of the teaser — we noticed the Big Daddy doll the older ‘Little Sister‘ is holding is actually something that looks like she made. The head of doll is a baseball, sticking into the ball are thumbtacks which represent the eyes and the tips are pained red. The infamous arm of the Big Daddy doll is a thimble and attached to that is a phone cord. There is no question that 2K Marin did a wonderful job of creating remarkable detail in the pre-rendered video.
After the jump, read about things we might have discovered.
Although it’s hard to tell how old the girl is, we believe she’s no older than 13, which makes us wonder which ending the developers choose from the first BioShock. Or could they have maybe scarped the whole idea all together and created a totally different ending. For those who are wondering what we mean by that — at the end of the first game, depending on your chooses you’ve made, the game selects one of two alternative endings.
As the camera pans back, we see the girls back and structures begin to rise from the beach, as we said before — we believe it’s a metaphor for the city of Rapture to rise once again. But the question is — how so?
At the end of the trailer, we see the recognizable BioShock Logo appear (pictured up top). But this time it looks worn out. Rust seems to cover the logo and what looks to be cocoons protruding from it. Then right before the video ends, a butterfly emerges from one of the cocoons and flies to the corner, while resting there.
Now we think this could mean one of two things, that Rapture is still underground and one of the Little Sister wants to return to her lost city where she was ‘born’ in. Or maybe the butterfly represents new life and instead of the city returning just underwater — it has submerged and soon the belief of what Rapture stood for is going to consume the mainland. And the butterfly is the start of just that.
I’m hoping for the second prediction. We do know the game is a prequel and a sequel, we just think most of it will take place on land and majority of the story will take place after the original game. What do you guys think?

Actually, the “prequel/sequel” tip was confirmed to be false, so you can stop reporting that.

I think they are barnacles on the logo, not cocoons. Barnacles are most commonly found in very shallow water so would go along with the ‘Rapture Rising’ theme. I can see how you might make the mistake considering the butterfly.

don’t be so quick to point out his “mistake”.. if you’re going to take it literally enough to point out that they are barnacles then you should take it literally enough to realize that butterflies are not produced from them.

Although I’m generally against the idea of prequels, I must admit that I’d love so see Rapture in its prime. In the first game it was all beat up and neglected and torn apart from the “war”. I wanna see what it was supposed to be. The whole time I was playing Bioshock I was thinking, “Man I can’t even imagine the spectacle this joint must have been before all this happened.” Here’s hoping…
