First Day Sales for Wii Music in Japan are ‘Meh’

Is this a sign for things to come here in the ‘States’ starting this Tuesday? Nintendo’s rhythm ‘game’ Wii Music, is about to be released to US Wii owners, but in Japan it didn’t do so well. Although, the music-based game didn’t sell terrible but it’s defiantly not a hit either. While it did move 50,000 copies on the first day, which sounds great — it certainly doesn’t compare to Wii Fit, which sold 254,000 copies in two days. Or even Super Smash Bros. Brawl which was rumored to sell 500,000 copies in one day.

We just wonder if Americans are going to gobble up the Music ‘game’, but not only is the game starting to get average reviews (yes, some are good), the marketing has been awful. So in the end, we think it’ll be about the same — percentage wise. Below are the numbers of the popular Wii games sold in Japan in the first few days.

Super Mario Galaxy: 130,000 on day one (rumored)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: 500,000 on day one (rumored)
Wii Fit: 254,000 in first two days
Mario Kart Wii: 594,000 in first four days
Wii Sports: 176,167 in first two days
Wii Play: 175,297 in first two days
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: 139,011 in first two days
Wario: Smooth Moves: 63,954 in first two days
