Mirror’s Edge to be a Trilogy — Level Editor to be Featured in the Sequel
EA and DICE are expecting big things for Mirror’s Edge. Earlier in the month they bragged how they believe the game has the potential of selling more than 3 million copies worldwide when its released in mid-November. Not only do they think the whole gaming world is going to buy into the Parkour inspired game, they also plan on making it a trilogy. It was confirmed by DICE senior producer Owen O’Brien while speaking with AusGamers:
“The story we’re telling at the moment is kind of a trilogy, a three-story arc. I think there’s a lot of scope to take the story in different directions, or maybe tell someone else’s story. But certainly for these first couple games, it’s all about Faith. It’s all about her experience in the world.”
While the game seems very refreshing and it’s kind of a new type of genre (FPS/Platformer), we’re just not sure how three games will be. DICE would have to get pretty creative because the biggest thing that scares us about the game is how repetitive it could become. And we’re just talking about playing through the first game once. It’s also great to know ( ***SPOILER***) Faith doesn’t die. Thanks for sharing that with us Mr. O’Brien!
Although he also spilled the beans about what they plan on doing with the future titles and the features it might include — namely a level editor:
“It’s something we’re probably going to look at for the sequel. It will be great, it really will be great. Creating a level editor is a skill in itself, and that’s a lot of work. And if we do it, we want to make the level editor as easy to use and intuitive as the game is. And that’s going to take us quite a lot of time. So that’s something we’re looking at for the sequel.”
While this could be an awesome feature to have, we just wish it was included in the first game. By the time a sequel is released for Mirror’s Edge, we think ‘level editors’ will become a standard in games. So in the end, a level editor in Mirror’s Edge ‘2′ won’t be as innovative as it sounds when it’s released in a year or two.
