Aykroyd Confirms the GhostBusters Game is Being Published by Atari — It will be Released in a Year
When the Ghostbusters game was first shown earlier in the year, it was well known Dan Aykroyd was working closely on the project. Not only was he going to lend his voice to reprise his 1984 role, but also work once again with Harold Ramis – who co-wrote the original movie and both would be writing the storyline for the game adaption.
Out of nowhere in late July, Activision Blizzard announced they would no longer be publishing the game and it’s fate at the time was unknown. Considering the game was almost completed, most people thought it would be picked up by some gaming publisher — it was just a matter of when. A few months have passed and yesterday we received some new info. While speaking in a interview with the Dallas Radio Station 105.3 KLLI, Aykroyd confirmed the game has officially been picked up by Atari, who as of yesterday, now owned by Infogrames. However, there is some bad news — Aykroyd mentioned the game is about “a year away” from being released.
Having the game come out next year makes no sense at all. Right before Ghostbusters was dropped by Activision Blizzard back in July, the release date was set for Halloween this year. So why on earth is it taken so long? Hopefully Dan messed up and meant to say ‘next year…’

Well, actually, next year is the 25th Anniversary of the Ghostbusters movie. So I’d say from a marketing standpoint, it makes perfect sense its pushed to next year. And hopefully, they put more effort into making the game perfect by its release.
