Oh jeez, Will Wright and EA wants to make a Spore Movie and/or TV show. While speaking with Reuters, he spoke about his ambition to adapt the game onto the silver screen.

With Spore, we’re looking way outside the game space, such as TV, movies, etc. We’re basically planting the seeds to spread Spore out to a much wider group of people than would ever play a computer game,”

I’m not sure how well a movie would work. Most video games that turn into movies like Mortal Kombat or the latest Hitman turn disastrous because they lack a decent story. Games are driven by mostly strong gameplay, and generally speaking the story is created as an after thought. While movies are appealing because it’s 100% story-driven.

However, EA might be able to get away with this idea, While Spore doesn’t have a story-that right there - could work for them. They wouldn’t need any elements from the story because there isn’t one. Meaning the writer for the movie could completely tell what ever he wants to be told, and not have to worry about restrictions because it’ll make the “fans” of the game pissed. Although in the end, I can’t see it working out for us to enjoy. It seems more about EA making money, than creating a good script.

I could maybe see a kids TV show become successful. When you think about the game itself, it’s a simple game, besides the depth it has when creating a creature, it’s a pretty basic scenario. From a lot of children TV shows that I’ve seen as of late, you don’t need a complex story to tell, you need “funny looking characters” with flashing colors.
