New Godfather game in the Works, Will Also Have Online Battles
The Godfather game sold 4 million units on last generation of consoles and the remake on this generation, are good enough to warrant Electronic Arts to make the “Godfather 2” game. According to Variety, the game will still feature an open world element much like what Grand Theft Auto does. Just like the first game and movie, it’ll follow a new member of the Corlenone family who tries to rise through the ranks in crime.
Senior VP and GM of EA Nick Earl told Variety about the early concept of the game.
“We talked about it a lot and ended up focusing on the ’60s, because the flashbacks that are so great as a film experience don’t really work for a game. We’ve created our own story that weaves in and out with the film and hits its major touchpoints.”
The story will take place in three different cities: New York, Miami, and Havana. The game will feature the ability for the player to control their crime families from a “city-wide perspective“. In a world where almost every video game has some sort of online play, the Godfather II will be no different. The game will have an online multiplayer option, where the player will take control of his/her’s “crime family” while battling it out against a rival family through Xbox Live or Playstation Network. Unfortunately, no other details about playing online have been revealed.
It’s was also mentioned in the Variety article, that all the stars from the second film will be returning to their roles from the famous 70’s film. Excluding Al Pacino, who played the character Don Michael Corleone, decided not to take the role. But EA will have a replacement actor who sounds familiar to the legendary character.
Redwood Studios is the development team behind the game and they will hopefully create a better game then the first Godfather adaption. “Although the Xbox version of the game did receive decent reviews from critics with a 78% rating, according to gamerankings.com“. The Godfather series does have a lot of potential for a video game, hopefully the story can be improved on a next-gen console.
EA expects to ship the Godfather II in Febuary of 2009.

Al Pacino will do every crappy cop/robber movie that comes his way but he won’t do Mike Corleone?
