ESA Finds That 40% of Gamers are Women

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has finished their annual study about demographics in video games. The results might surprise many, considering that about 40% of women supposedly play video games. Although, It’s difficult to find exactly what the ESA was looking into. For instance, were they looking at every possible interactive software including mobile phones? Because if they were, I would find this study a little skewed.

I would love to see an in depth look into what “gamer girls” they found were playing. Like do 40% of women gamers own a PS3 or Xbox 360? Because I highly doubt they do. Again, I think the study takes everything into consideration including mobile gaming.

So all you gamers looking for a “hardcore” female gamer, I think you’ll have to be looking even harder, because they’re likely more rare then finding Bigfoot walking in downtown Miami in mid-July.

  1. Yeah that sounds more like 40% of women play videogames a few times a month. I dont doubt the myth of the elusive ‘gamer-girl’ cause i’ve met a few, but it wasnt anything to go crazy for. In my opinion if you can get a girl to play videogames on her own will she’s a keeper.
