New 360 To Upscale DVD’s
This past week Microsoft announced that they would be lowering the price of the 20GB Xbox and introducing a new model for $349.99 with a 60GB hard drive. This larger amount of storage will come in handy when the new system update hits so that you can store your games. Circuit city is now listing this new model with a release on August 8th, but they also gave some more information about the system,
From Circuit City Page:
Upscaling DVD Player: With an HDMI cable (sold separately), watch your favorite DVDs in near high-definition using the upscaling capabilities of Xbox 360.
Now that HD DVD is basically gone, this Upscaling DVD player will help bridge the gap between your current DVD’s and the downloadable HD content.

How uninformed can you be? The 360 has upscaled DVD’s with both HDMI and VGA.

360 has always upscaled dvds via HDMI and VGA. It does not upscale over Component. Another great example of how little research is done on some gaming sites before they post anything. Way to go. Keep misinforming the stupid noobs who use you as their main source.

Direct quote from Engadget (the source):
“The site lists an HDMI output with upscaling DVD player, which is nice to see.”

I believe the Old xbox could only upscale with the HD dvd player only using both HDMI or VGA. So this article is correct…

Q. Does the Xbox 360 upscale standard DVD movies?
A. Absolutely, but only if you’re using the VGA or HDMI connection. During the so-called “Spring Dashboard Update” Microsoft enabled DVD upscaling over the VGA connection — and upscaling over HDMI has been there since the introduction of the HDMI AV cable — so if you’re using VGA or HDMI you’ll see movies in whatever resolution you’ve set in the dashboard. However, this is only over VGA or HDMI. Also, with Fall Dashboard Update, standard DVD movies will be upscaled to 1080p on displays that support it, again only over the VGA connection or the HDMI connection.
