Picture of a Nintendo Cover Reveals a New Sonic Game? We Call it a Fake! *Updated* We Could Be Wrong
*Update #2* We contacted the user from forum, but unfortunately couldn’t get a hold of him, because…well his parents answered. They felt understandably uncomfortable about talking and had no comment. Which would make me believe even more that this could be real. If he’s not allowed to talk on the phone, then how could he do a Photoshop like that? 
*Update* Here is a quote from Nintendo Power last month: “We’re kicking off the next 20 years of Nintendo Power with more big reveals, including a top-secret cover story fit for a king. Its got a lot of heart. Just kidding. Its Mother 3. Just kidding. Please look forward to it.”
Interesting Indeed, maybe it is real. If it is, what the hell was Sega thinking about? First we saw the frustrating Sonic Unleashed, the whole internet thought it was going to be returning to his roots and be a fast 2D game. But we get a game that is mostly 3D and Sonic turns into a slow werewolf.
On a side-note, if the game is called Sonic & The Black Knight, there is in fact a character called the Black Knight in the Fire Emblem series. Could Sonic possibly be in a NEW role-playing game for the Wii? Check out the picture below and see the Black Knight’s sword, looks very similar…
Rumors are starting to swirl around the internet, today about a new Sonic game coming out for the Wii. A user named “donkey show” on the neogaf forums has posted a interesting picture of a Nintendo Power cover for August. If its real, the magazine has just revealed a brand new Sonic game for the Wii called: Sonic & The Black Night.
After looking at it closely in photoshop and discussing it with some colleagues of mine, we have come to the conclusion that it is probably a fake. But for obvious reason, we’re not saying it’s definitely 100% not real, maybe more like 85%.
The one thing that caught our attention was the Dead Rising announcement. It seems a little fishy, that right after the story just broke, it would be on the top part of the magazine for this month. Another thing that we noticed- Nintendo Power calling the game a “series”. Hasn’t there only been one game for the Xbox 360? That hardly would classify it as a series.
We decided to look at it in Photoshop. After zooming in on the Dead Rising text, we clearly saw what looked like brightness around the lettering. That sometimes is a sign of something possibly being added.
Sonic’s cropping also looks somewhat like it’s a tad unprofessional.

Sadly, this is 99% real. I’m a graphic artist and I do magazine publishing in particular. If this is a fake, it’s a DAMN good one.
First, there is a new CGI picture of Sonic. That isn’t just Photoshop work, but a LOT of mad skill right there.
Second, they got the font family right on the cover, compared to previous NP issues.
Third, about the glow on the type thing? So what? We do it all the time (I hate it, but we do it anyway).
As for calling it a series? Just an editorial decision. I’ve seen dumber ones be made countless times.

My guess is that this Nintendo Power cover is fake. There have been rumors of a Kingdom Hearts 3 game circulating and that is what I believe to be the next hinted game that will be discussed in the next issue.

You called a young boy’s house and then you figure he couldn’t have ‘photoshopped’ the cover (despite that it is, in fact, true) because his parents wouldn’t let him answer the phone?
Did you perhaps think it’s because you’re calling someone’s house randomly asking to talk to their children?

Why are you guys assuming a picture of a cover is faked, its not like its a leaked master source of the cover, you cant point out the text as shopped when the quality of the image is determined by the camera taking the picture. Anyways Sonic = Fail now and anyone still on Sonics blue member needs to realize the old days of sonic are gone. But if you like this shlop happy playing.

Actually, there is a dead rising ’series’. There was a second game produced for mobile.
